THE POSITION:


DESCRIPTION OF WORK:


  • As part of the role, water samples are collected to closely monitor compliance with regulations and permit conditions, ensuring that mining activities do not have a detrimental impact on the environment. Moreover, this position is responsible for investigating miningrelated accidents, aiming to identify the causes and implement measures to prevent future incidents. Additionally, recommendations are made regarding the release of bonds for different stages of reclamation, ensuring that the necessary financial resources are available for the restoration of mining sites. In cases where bond forfeiture is necessary, detailed profiles are prepared to facilitate the process.
  • It is important to note that the Federal Office of Surface Mining plays a crucial role in overseeing Pennsylvania's mining program, ensuring that all inspections on coal sites are conducted at specified frequencies to maintain compliance with Pennsylvania's Action Plan. This position plays a vital role in upholding the state's commitment to environmental protection and safety in the mining industry, ensuring that all operations are carried out in accordance with the established regulations and guidelines.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday
  • Friday, with a 30minute lunch.

Telework:You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) full-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Pottsville.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY:


QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:


  • One year of experience as an Environmental Protection Trainee in the surface mining program;
    or:
  • Three years of progressively responsible surface mining and conservation experience;
    or:
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Other Requirements:


  • This particular position also requires possession of a valid PA non commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
