Duties:


If selected for this position, the incumbent may perform the following duties:

  • Assist Budget Director and senior analysts in developing budget estimates.
  • Responsible for checking and verifying the use of proper accounting codes on various budget documents.
  • Obtain, select, and compile data from various fiscal and budgetary sources.
  • Serves as primary assistant to senior analysts and Budget Director with regard to gathering and reporting Institute obligations in disease areas.

If you are selected at the GS-05 or GS-06 level, you will essentially perform the same duties as those at the full performance level described above, however, duties are less complex and will be performed under closer supervision with more detailed guidance.

Qualifications:


In order to qualify for the Budget Technician GS-0561 position at the GS-05 level if you meet one of the following qualification requirements:
You must have completed 4 years of education above high school;
OR
OR


Have a combination of post high school education and specialized experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.


In order to qualify for a Budget Technician GS-0561 position at the GS-06 level:

You must have at least 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: assisting in reviewing vouchers, purchase requests and contract invoices to verify budgetary account codes and cost estimates; adjusting account balances to reflect the effect of allocations, transfers, obligations, and transactions; and collecting budget information for use in budget reports.


In order to qualify for a Budget Technician GS-0561 position at the GS-07 level:

You must have at least 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: assisting in researching accounting information to identify budget variances or irregularities; reviewing vouchers, purchase requests and contract invoices to verify budgetary account codes and cost estimates; and preparing summary financial reports and documents using automated systems.
