Definition:

Under general supervision of the Compliance Coordinator, maintains hourly classroom ratios for all classrooms. Monitors and ensures student/teacher classroom ratios comply with required Head Start standards at all times. Compiles and generates monthly student/teacher ration reports.

Monitors and ensures that teachers are relieved to take scheduled breaks in a timely manner without impacting required student/teacher ratios.

Examples of Tasks:

Classroom Support

  • Monitors and maintains classroom ratios for students/teachers on an hourly basis for all classrooms. Ensures that Head Start student to teacher classroom ratios are maintained according to established guidelines. Conducts regular hourly checks of all classrooms to ensure that the 10:1 student and teacher ratio is maintained for Pre-School classes and 4:1 ratio for Infant Toddler classrooms at all times. Coordinates scheduling and reassignment of classroom staff to ensure appropriate classroom ratio levels are maintained throughout the entire school day. Verify that classroom ratio numbers align with accuracy of the ProCare program or other computer tracking systems.
  • Confers with teachers on a regular basis to identify those that may be planning to take leave and readjust classroom schedules to accommodate for teachers on leave. Checks with front desk staff daily to determine if any teachers called in sick and rearrange or combine classrooms to ensure sufficient classroom coverage is maintained. Promptly notify supervisor of problems or concerns that may impede required staffing levels.
  • Coordinates with the supervisor to develop and maintain weekly and monthly break schedules for all classroom teachers. Monitors and ensures that teachers get relieved during the day to take assigned breaks. Fill in, as needed, to accommodate for teachers going on break when no other staff is available. Keep supervisor informed of situations that may prevent teachers from taking periodic breaks during the day. Communicates to the daily break schedule to the staff.
  • Compiles data and generate a monthly student and teacher ratio report. Develops and maintains a computerized tracking system to use in generating regular student/teacher ratio reports.
  • Provides supervisor and department manager with monthly ratio reports and alert them to any trends or concerns that may affect department compliance in maintaining appropriate classroom ratios. Researches and analyzes reports for trends that may adversely affect student/teacher classroom ratio requirement.
  • Provides classroom coverage, as needed, to accommodate unscheduled absences or emergencies to ensure required classroom ratios are maintained.
E.R.S.E.A./Transportation Support

  • Supports E.R.S.E.A./Transportation Coordinator with daily bus drop off and pick up system on site for children at ECEC
  • Ensures that all children on assigned morning bus run get safely into their classrooms when they arrive at the Early Childhood Education Center.
  • Ensures that all children on assigned afternoon bus run get safely from their classroom to the bus when they are departing the Early Childhood Education Center.
  • Ensures Child Transportation Tracking system is completed each day and provides to front desk staff to check children in and out daily.
  • Assists transportation staff by being a bus monitor as needed
  • Ensures safety of children including securing safety belts, on buses; ensuring parents sign bus check in form, and helping students to and from buses.
  • Communicates clearly and professionally with students, parents, and transportation staff.
  • Monitors children behavior and ensures safety measures are followed.
  • Participates in bus evacuation drills and training.
Supports and attends E.R.S.E.A. recruiting events

Program Operations

  • Assists with the ordering and inventory of diapering supplies, laundry supplies, classroom snack items and informs designated person for other program items such as, hand soap, vinyl & latex gloves, workhorses, etc. for ordering.
  • Stocks and organizes diapering, laundry and snack items.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
