Distinguishing Features:

This class is distinguished from other administrative support classes in that it performs complex technical duties that require advanced knowledge in the area of specialization of training.


Essential Functions:

Examples of Tasks:


  • Assists with planning, overseeing, coordinating, scheduling and implementing the Police Department training program for all sworn and nonsworn staff.
  • Supports Police Department staff with individual training plans and makes recommendations for training; ensures that staff complies with AZ Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) continued professional training requirements, Accreditation training Standards and/or specialized training; assists in identifying and resolving problems related to training issues.
  • Maintains detailed calendar of department training events, activities, and hosting events; arranges appointments, schedules, conferences, travel arrangements, and itineraries.
  • Tracks Police Department's annual training costs; forecasts, tracks, and controls expenditures related to the training program.
  • Tracks employee training hours and expenses; updates and maintains specialized database systems.
  • Establishes and maintains a vast network of training and employee development resources.
  • Performs administrative duties required in the maintenance of the department's training facilities including firing range ensuring proper upkeep, use, and potentially purchasing of training supplies and other related equipment.
  • Performs a wide variety of specialized technical and advanced administrative work including but not limited to processing training requests, verifying accuracy of information, researching discrepancies, and recording information in electronic software.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate and complete records; prepares clear and concise reports to monitor the success of training programs; creates and shares related written materials.
  • Plans, organizes, assigns, and reviews the work of assigned nonsworn staff and volunteers.
  • Attends departmental, Community, and external meetings as necessary to attain and convey information regarding the area of assignment including monthly training and potential grant meetings.
  • Monitors changes in regulations and technology that may affect operations; implements policy and procedural changes after approval; ensures compliance with applicable Federal, State, and tribal laws, rules, regulations, and ordinances.
  • Assist in training new hires on Department policies and procedures and use the best training methods for a specific purpose or audience.
  • Attend seminars and meetings to learn new training methods and techniques and use the knowledge to prepare and coordinate future training sessions.
  • Market Department training opportunities and provide information on benefits to encourage participation.
  • Coordinates special projects, assignments, and activities as assigned.
  • Answers phone calls, directs calls, takes messages, and maintains schedules, itineraries, status boards for supervisors and staff. Greets visitors, directs them to appropriate staff, answers routine questions about police department, services, policies and procedures, and assists visitors.
  • Contributes effectively to meeting the Police Department's goals and objectives; supports other staff members and is a "team player" by assisting personnel with their job duties.
  • Adheres to all training, policies, and procedures. Maintains strict confidence and security of all data, financial accounts, information, intelligence, metrics, audio, video, computer analytics and meta data, police reports, supplements and associated case files, physical evidence, photographs, statistics and any other materials that are confidential and sensitive to all cases, investigations, personnel records and the operations or property of the SRPD and SRPMIC.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned by the designated supervisor to enhance/facilitate departmental operations.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and other Characteristics:


  • Knowledge of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community.
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, and methods of administering and coordinating a comprehensive police training program.
  • Knowledge of functions, principles, and practices of law enforcement agencies.
  • Knowledge of operating procedures and structure of a police department or similar government entity.
  • Knowledge of business letter writing and basic report preparation techniques; effective communication techniques in public presentations.
  • Knowledge of record keeping principles and procedures.
