Definition:


Under general supervision from the Recreation Education Manager, plans, organizes, implements, monitors and improves the Community's Recreation Education programs, activities and events.

Continually strives to make creative and innovative recommendations for improvement to the Community's Recreation Education Program for participants of all age groups.


This job class is treated as FLSA Non-Exempt.


Distinguishing Features:

The Recreation Coordinator II (EDU) differs from the Recreation Coordinator I by demonstrating more of a leadership role in conceptualizing, planning and implementing recreation educational based programs.

The Recreation Coordinator II (EDU) is expected to have a higher experience level and provide a higher level of creativity and organizational skills in carrying out the department's various programs.

Education Programs:
_Assists the Recreation Education Program Manager with implementing programs for SRPMIC youth and adults, including:


  • Tutoring Programs:
  • Coordinates and implements tutoring services
  • Provides a safe and productive learning environment for tutoring to be held
  • Assists with the recruitment and selection of tutors
  • Assists in the training and monitoring of tutors
  • Leisure Education Classes:
  • Conceptualizes, implements & promotes leisure education classes and activities.
  • Plans and organize in advance a calendar of classes
  • Assists with recruitment and selection of instructors
  • Adaptive Services:
  • Develops appropriate adaptive learning classes/services with consultation from the Recreation Education Adaptive Coordinator.
  • Literacy Programs and Services:
  • Assist the Recreation Education Division staff in conceptualizing, implementing & promoting all literacy programs/services
  • Constantly strives to develop new, innovative and creative recreation education activities for all ages and abilities.

Leadership_:
Assists with the implementation of recreational education programs and activities to meet the needs of participants.

  • Assist with managing day to day activities of all tutors, instructors and temporary staff by monitoring and evaluating performance and provide recommendation to Recreation Education Manager to improve problem areas.
  • Organizes and assists with enrollment and registration in the various programs as required.
  • Monitor's signin and signout to ensure minors are release to authorized family members or approved custodial care persons.
  • Works cooperatively within the Community and with outside agencies to determine the types of events most suitable for the Community's participants.
  • As required, acts as chaperone and provides transportation for events and activities.
  • Monitors conduct of program participants involved in classes/activities and ensures that staff are closely maintaining safety and discipline standards.
  • Helps coordinate all preparation and plan implementation for all.

Community & Cultural Outreach_:
Promote the Recreation Education Programs to interested participants of all ages.

  • Assists in the development of promotional materials to enhance customer participation in program events, classes and activities.
  • Assists in coordinating and organizing special holiday celebrations, traditional activities and other annual Community functions as required.
  • Develops flyers, internet announcements, newspaper ads, social media, school outreach and ads in the Au-Authm Newspaper.
  • Coordinates cultural related activities with the Cultural Resources Department.

Operations & Administration_:

  • Learns and practices proper reporting procedures and processes for child neglect and abuse.
  • Coordinates all participant Guardian agreements regarding behavioral disclaimers.
  • Maintains the SharePoint events calendar to assist with planning and coordination of recreational programs.
  • Learns, and complies with, the proper incident reporting procedures.
  • Writes and maintains reports for issues impacting program effectiveness.
  • Maintains records on program enrollment and daily participation for use in determining participant interest.
  • Assists with budget development for funding of recreational programs, events and activities.
  • Coordinates materials inventory and orders recreation supplies and equipment with supervisor's approval.
  • Attends meetings, educational workshops, conferences and training sessions as well as assists in other departmental functions as required.
  • Participates in the development of department goals, objectives and internal practices and procedures.
