THE POSITION:


DESCRIPTION OF WORK:

Entry level professional social service work.

Employee will participate in formal and informal training programs and learn about the network of available community resources by reviewing files, site visits, and working with and observing higher level caseworker staff.

They will receive instruction for proper completion of applicable forms, paperwork, and a variety of entry level social services and case management duties designed to provide supportive services to children, youth, and families.

Schedule and conduct interviews and follow-up visits to provide service and counseling. Prepare and provide testimony in court under supervision.

Make referrals to other public and private social services and community agencies and resources to meet clients' needs and assist in understanding and utilizing these resources.

Attend and participate in case reviews and supervisory conferences. The worker will be exposed to a variety of learning experiences. This includes formal and on-the-job training programs designed to develop professional and technical skills. Document activities and services using designated agency methods and procedures, which includes social summaries, correspondence, and reports. Perform other related work as required.


Work Schedule and Additional Information:


  • Fulltime employment.
  • Work hours are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday
  • Friday, with a 30minute lunch.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY:


QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:


  • Two years of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 and two years of college level course work which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences;
    or:
  • A bachelor's degree which includes or is supplemented by successful completion of 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences;
    or:
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences and one year of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 or in a similar position performing paraprofessional case management functions.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within two months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.

Other Requirements:


  • PA residency requirement is currently
    waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:


  • A conditional offer of employment will require a drug screening.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
  • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
