Overview of Associate Director of Housing and Residential EducationThe Department of Housing and Residential Education is seeking an Associate Director of Housing & Residential Education.
The Associate Director of Housing & Residential Education is responsible for the management of personnel, the department, the residential conduct process, student information distribution, programming and residential education, and addressing student needs.
The Associate Director of Housing & Residential Education will report directly to the Director of Housing & Residential Education.Pay:
$60,000 - $64,000
Duties and Responsibilities of Associate Director of Housing and Residential Education
Directly supervise, recruit, train and hire two full-time professional staff members
Reviews and revises department processes/practices on a yearly basis
Serves as the chief conduct officer for the Department of Housing and Residential Education
Catalogs/Reviews all resident conduct occurrences in The University Village community
Manages the department Website along with Housing Operations Coordinator
Provides guidance to Residence Life staff to support their success in meeting and exceeding programming and residential education requirements
Works with staff and students to addresses concerns related to student behavior
Works with prospective students and family members to communicate benefits of living on campus
Provides guidance and support in helping prospective students apply and secure an assignment in University Village
Completes projects as assigned by Director, identified in committee participation, and/or identified by needs of the department
Serves on campus committees, task forces, and/or search committees as requested

Education of Associate Director of Housing and Residential EducationMasters Degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, College Student Personnel or related field required
Experience of Associate Director of Housing and Residential Education
Five years of professional, experience working in a student housing environment
Must have at least five years years of progressively responsible experience in housing and residence life
At least four years of supervision experience within a student housing setting and served on a duty rotation
Incumbent is required to reside within 30 minutes of the Purdue Northwest Hammond Campus
Night and weekend work will be required on a rotating basis
Core Competencies of Associate Director of Housing and Residential Education
Knowledge of concepts, principles and practices of counseling, particularly as they apply to young adults
Knowledge of federal and state laws relating to the operation of or having an impact on the Residence Halls
Knowledge and ability to supervise, mentor, coach and discipline staff
Skilled in techniques and methodologies in administering student discipline and in handling crisis situations
Skill in communications, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with college officials, campus police officers, students and public
Skill in recognizing, analyzing, developing solutions to a variety of problem situations as they relate to residence hall students
Ability to interact with diverse population; ability to make rational decisions in an emergency situation and to remain calm in high stress / high pressure environment
As part of the job responsibilities associated with this position, knowledge of rules and regulations set forth by the NCAA should be maintained, reviewed and practiced to ensure compliance relative to those applicable duties
