Summary of Position:
The primarily objective is to ensure the safety and well-being of the Hotel Guests and pool visitors.

Keep the pool area clean and well maintained and also to ensure water hygienic and safety standards are met at all times.

Additionally welcome Guests to the pool facility and always be courteous and friendly to guests, be attentive to their needs, handle problems in a professional manner and are conscious of the importance of safety.


Primary Functions:


  • To serve as a Gansevoort Hotel Group Brand Ambassador and maintain integrity of brand standards and goals.
  • To uphold and comply with Coyle Standards and Gansevoort Core Values at all times.
  • Establish and maintain standards of a 5 star service.
  • To provide a safe and comfortable experience for all guests of the Pool by offering assistance, service, and follow up to guests.
  • To greet all guests and offer assistance, maintaining cleanliness in all pool and sundeck areas, offering pool towels, etc.

To rescue swimmers in danger of drowning and administer first aid.


Specific Accountabilities:


  • Welcome guests in a proper manner following GATSBY and Coyle standards.
  • Be present at the pool area at all times, never leaving pool unattended. Check with manager / supervisor before leaving work area for any reason.
  • Inform guests and patrons about pool facilities, functions, services and hours of operations.
  • Consistently offer professional, friendly and engaging service.
  • Monitor pool area and safety of guests. Observe the swimming area for dangerous conditions, unusual or unsafe activities, and swimmers who are struggling.
  • Restrict guest from using any kind of glassware near the pool area.
  • Verify that all entering the Pool area are registered guests of the hotel (unless listed as a VIP guest of the owners or Management) anyone that is not registered to the hotel as a guest or VIP of owners or Management may not enter the pool area at any time.
  • Ensure the sun loungers are clean, umbrellas are in working shape and, in the correct position and proper working condition.
  • Ensures that the umbrellas are fixed properly to their units and ensures that when the umbrellas are not in use, they are tidied down for safety precautions.
  • Report accidents, injuries, and unsafe work conditions to the manager, attend and complete safety training and certifications as required by the management.
  • Provide towels to guests and ensure needs are meet.
  • General cleaning of pool area (no trash, dirty towels, magazines, glasses, etc). Assist in the cleanliness and the daily upkeep of the pool area.
  • Communicate with manager any pool items that need repair, replacing, upkeep.
  • Renew required certifications when they expire.
  • Maintain a professional appearance.
  • Attend all scheduled meetings and training sessions.
  • Attend department meetings as scheduled.
  • Be active participant and support your team in achieving the hotel goals and objectives.
  • Perform other duties as requested by Management.

Required Skills/Qualifications:


  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Prior Lifeguarding experience preferred.
  • Must have current, uptodate certificates (CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Lifeguarding/First Aid).
  • Customer Service Skills and good Communication Skills.
  • Good listening skills.
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize.
  • Ability to function in a noisy, hectic and crowed environment.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Ability to handle guests' complaints.
  • Neat and clean appearance.
  • Flexible to work schedules to include morning/evenings/night, as well as weekends and holidays.
  • Being a team player and ability to successfully pass on information from one team member to another.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to perform rescue actions, administer first aid and CPR.

Physical Requirements:


  • Must be able to be standing/mobile/stationary for at least 7 hours a day, 35 hours a week.
  • Periodically fast paced strides are required to go from one part of property to other.
  • Must regularly lift/carry/move 60 pounds of force.
  • Must be able to seize, grasp, turn and hold objects with hands.
  • Occasionally kneel, bend, crouch and climb is required.

$18.00 per hour


Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Weekends as needed
