Working hard this holiday?
Throughout the last year I have read a lot of articles and post that have as a main idea that hard works pays off. They encourage us to stay focused on our project or task and even learn a new aspect of our job so as to expand our abilities.
Each of these articles is intended to encourage us to stay the course and see the project through to the end. Over all this is good advice. Work hard and stay focused is good advice even when you are in the wrong job. Learning to apply yourself to a less than rewarding task is often valuable since even the best job has parts of it that try your patience.
But from all these articles and posts we can get the idea that work is the reason for living. It isn’t, relationships are. Most people I know, whether they enjoy their jobs or not, intend on retiring someday. What then if the point of life is work? Now let me be honest, hard work takes time away from relationships, and that is very hard to avoid. But I guess my point is that you should make sure you do not get too upside down on what truly matters in the long run.
You might end up with the great job and the cash flow, but these are much more enjoyable if you have the right person to share them with. Should you work hard and even learn to be more valuable, yes. But you should also take and even make opportunities to build and improve the relationships in your life.
Maybe you have heard it said this way, “Do you live to work or work to live?” So take some time this holiday season and make sure that the people you care about know it.
Blessings
