Tired of all the hate and bigotry, so stop
We have all heard the slogans like “stop the hate”, yet see a true lack of understanding of just what that means. Sure we would love to see people get along. We would fully appreciate the ability to walk along the street and not fear for our lives. But I expect not many of us actually anticipate that this will be true. Hate is much to ingrained in our society and in our world for a slogan to impact.
I am very frustrated by the fact that most of us if not all of us have felt hate at one time or another, a hate that emanated from ourselves. True we might not have acted on it or moved to reduce the happiness of another but the hate seeped into our attitude.
If we desire to stop hate and bigotry it will take more than slogans and rallies. Marches will not end emotional conflicts; they will not end or change the minds of those who disagree. Honesty might. The problem is we see so very little honesty during the debates and conversations surrounding hate issues. People only understand the situations form their own perspective so it can be hard to hear the other side of the issue particularly when honesty is tainted by a desire to win an argument instead of inspire in a conversation.
Honesty starts at home, being honest with yourself. What do you believe about the issues and why? What causes you to react emotionally? Then you might be ready to hear the other side of or perspective. When you are aware of where you stand it is much easier to hear the other person speak because you are not spending your time reading your rebuttal you are free to listen and to hear.
Hate will not disappear simply because we wish it to. Hate can only be overcome by love, a love that accepts them as they are warts and all. The only hate that we can control is the one that springs up in us. When that hate is gone it is much easier for another to let theirs go as well.
Stop the hate, set yourself free.
Blessings

Harvey I agree learning about our neighbors will help us listen. It could be interesting to know just how even their perspective differs from ours. We tend to make a few assumptions in our lives.
