Speaking out loud

Speaking out loud

ec6e4115.jpg

We have all been told to think before we speak or you have two ears so listen twice as much as you speak. Or again if you do not have anything nice to say don’t say anything. Yes there are a lot of saying about keeping our mouths shut and in doing so keeping ourselves out of trouble.

But let’s be honest sometimes it is just too much of a temptation to blurt out that phrase or instead through your friend under the bus. We don’t intend any harm, only to jest or “clear our own name”. Then in those cases we do reap the reward of ignoring the advice to be alert to what we say. In truth a jest can be fun and lessen tension in a room, a good joke can brighten someone’s day.

Speech is such a powerful tool, it is used to create unity between two powerful contenders or it can be used to calm an emotionally heightened room. We train in speech class to deliver words to accomplish established goals. We pay well for people who are able to speak with skill.

Speech can be your most effective resource to accomplish the ends you desire, but remember speech can end up having two edges. While a scalpel in the hands of a surgeon can bring results that astound, that same scalpel can bring destruction in the hands of someone less skilled. So yes use your words but also remember you have two ears.

May your day be filled with Joy.
