Salem is the Halloween Capital of the World

Okay—so I live in Salem, Massachusetts. Rule of Thumb for residents is you don’t go outside for the entire month of October if you can help it. But I did so today.

October in Salem is a holiday worth experiencing. I dragged myself out the door and started walking. No cars this late in October: The streets are riddled with tourists. What an experience.

There are excellent restaurants and many food vendors. I think I've settled on Finz as my favorite. But there are many fine establishments excelling in cuisine.

Take a spin with me as I muddle through the crowd capturing pictures and food and--oh yes--Fun.

I always jokingly say, “twenty-five points for a tourist.” But many of us (me included) do love our tourists. If us residents are disgruntled by the inconvenience, it is true tourists know how to enjoy our holiday. I marveled at the costumes, hats, etc.

There are serious costumes.

There are sexy costumes.

And just plain fun, fun, fun.

Tourist traffic is heavy. So heavy, streets are shut down. Mail gets suspended.

(Are those my fingers? No charge for those.)

There are rides and fun everywhere.

It's probably too late to capture the celebration of Halloween this year. But remember--if you are looking for an October dose of fun, try Salem. As for me? I'm moving. I want to come back as a tourist.

Love this Joyce \ud83d\udc1d Bowen Brand Ambassador @ beBee! We stopped in Salem for a day on our way to Bar Harbor Maine. I LOVED it there. I had no idea Salem lies along the Ocean at the time, another added bonus. You're right, the restaurants are very cool. I love the outdoor seating among the restaurants and shops. My favorite pic, The Grinch costumes... awesome and it looks like a great time. Looks like you had an awesome day! I'd like to go back one day and visit more historical places.

Interesting pics and culture, Joyce. Here in Oz, Halloween is not celebrated (or should it be ‘revered’?) as extensively as it is in the US, so pardon my ignorance if I ask why Salem becomes a haven (or is it hell?) for the whole month of October. Is this a hangover (not the alcohol induced one) from the infamous 17th century witch trials, or is there something equally mysterious driving this evolution from a single night into a month long scare party? 🕷🕸🎭🦇👻🎃

Thanks for the fun Halloween post Joyce \ud83d\udc1d Bowen Brand Ambassador @ beBee...I spent my fifteen years as a mail carrier delivering in the city of Salem...My route was at the back end of common near the Hawthorne Hotel...with the witch house right across the street, I was smack dab in the middle of all the 'brew ha ha"...pun intended;-) And never once did it deter me from delivering the mail to my customers...It just took twice the amount of time it normally would...probably began to cost the post office too much money in overtime...Maybe they will eventually make it a 'Federal Holiday!'

I feel sorry for not visiting Salem Joyce \ud83d\udc1d Bowen Brand Ambassador @ beBee. I have done an extensive summer course at MIT and spent sometime with Harvard Middle East Dept. This is apart from more visits to your state. Next time Salem must be on my agenda
