Opening that can of worms

Opening that can of worms

When was the last time you intentionally choose to open a can of worms? Yes, I mean going back to a problem that may not appear to have a solution or at least not an easy one. The issue with a can of worms is that on average no one wants to deal with them. The result is then that this issue becomes the elephant in the room, the problem everyone is aware of but no one is willing to address.

Dealing with a convoluted problem is often very difficult which is why we tend to ignore it or at least attempt to work around it. But what are the benefits of solving it or at the very least bringing the issue into the light? The first benefit is we begin to deal with the situation, I know of very few problems that get better or easier to address when left alone for a long time. Addressing a difficult issue in a careful manor is the first step to solving even the most convoluted situation. Yes many issues that we tend to ignore or desire to leave alone bring frustration and pain. In fact that is why we most often leave them alone.

A second benefit to addressing a touchy problem is that it is no longer a stress inducing issues as you wonder when it is going to blow up in your face. When we bring it out in the open to address it at lest we have chosen the time when it is addressed instead of permitting the problem to choose the moment when it rears its head. Timing is crucial but rarely does a problem choose a great time to exists, in most cases they are vastly inconvenient. And a can of worms variety never chooses a good time to be tended to. We must simply decide to do so.

Opening a can of worms is never fun but it is essential if we desire to have a healthy place to live or work. Letting problems alone more often than not simply create greater problems that we must deal with. Addressing these issues sooner rather than later often permits us to deal with smaller situations. That is not to say the situation is easy, but generally easier than when it explodes onto the scene of its own accord.

When a situation an issue becomes the elephant in the room it is a constant distraction and point of stress. We tiptoe around it and hope no one steps in it. We often wonder who is going to address it; we hope someone will, even when in fact we fear someone will. The question is simple, are we willing to be that someone? Are we willing to step up and attend to the issues that are slowly killing the environment in which we live or work, or would we rather someone else popped the lid?

. No, I was thinking generally. But many issues come to mind when I stop to think. I just wish I had better solutions than "just stop" .

Thank you Tony. Fear is the anticipation of the worst case scenario. Regardless of its validity. So I fully agree with you that fear is completely self generated. And the main reason we don't do what we believe is right.#3

Leaving an issue unsolved can become a gigantic nightmare. Yes, if we desire to pacify berserk affairs, then the best approach is through excellent character, stern perseverance, balanced attitude, clarity in expressions and sound judgment. To solve problems and end disputes is a noble act.
