Its Good To Have Friends

Its Good To Have Friends

d48bbf12.jpg

Been in Seattle three weeks. Went to the local community college to see about enrolling. Since I don't really get what people do I'm going to get a degree in something I might be able to understand, like math or science. Right now I'm looking into mathematics.

I bought some food at my son's food truck last week. A lady who works for him was surprised to see me. He has a couple people working for him now. It's good to see my son doing good for himself.

I outgrew Modesto. It's about as small as the town I grew up in when I was a kid. Sometimes you realize you don't belong where you're at and it's time to move on. I guess I changed being gone 16 years and people I knew stayed the same. I realized I was only there because I was around family. It's strange to live with people you grew up with and have nothing in common with them anymore. They say life goes on.

I hear Salinas is a regular city now. I have a sister there and friends I grew up with. I think my cousin, Rebecca, still lives there too. Maybe I'll go there when I visit California in the summer.

Got into a transitional housing place. It's okay for now while I'm looking for a better place.

I'm in a day center at one of the Native Centers here. There's a guy asking people a lot of questions. A couple of people have asked him if he's wearing a wire. It seems like he's just trying to be friendly. Someone told him he talks too much.

I was here sixteen years because this is where my kids grew up. Then I left for four years. One of my sons still lives here.

I hang out at the Native Centers because the Native Community helped me when I lost everything in the recession. That's when I was adopted by the Lakota. It's good to have friends.

I was talking to a couple people hanging out here. One of them wants to start a business that helps the homeless. I guess I'm one of a lot of people the Native Community has helped.

I grew up in a big family and came to Seattle twenty years ago for my son. Now I'm part of a community too. I guess I'm blessed.
