    This position is located in our small, but growing, manufacturing and overhaul/repair facility located in Greenville, SC.

    The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for design, development, and industrialization of new products and performs conventional engineering assignments that may involve equipment, project and/or product design, test, specification preparation, research investigations, etc.

    Responsible for new product development from conception through to production and project integration.


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


    Design and development of new products, equipment and systems, and modification of existing products as well as prototyping and testing:Product design using 3D solid modeling and 2D drafting tools (SolidWorks).Mechanical and structural analysis (FEA using SolidWorks).Kinematic synthesis.

    Component and system tolerance analysis (GD&T).Structural, electrical and thermal analysis.
    Evaluate new components, materials, and manufacturing methods for application in new and existing products.
    Execute, control and maintain projects costs, manufacturability, quality and design requirements during product development cycle, project time, and expenses.
    Create bills of materials and drawings for prototypes.
    Estimate manufacturing costs for new designs and maintain product profitability through selection of most advantageous processes and materials.
    Build and test prototype in manufacturing and release into production.
    Ensure quality specifications are met.

    Use analytical studies of vibration test, forces, heat transfer, and tolerances to assure product function and reliability (FMEA).Design test plans, conduct tests, analyze test data, and prepare test reports and specifications as required.

    Specify, acquire, and set up instrumentation including data acquisition systems as required for various tests.
    Meet project target dates and provide required documentation within budgeted costs.
    Work with vendors to obtain component parts.
    Provide engineering support to manufacturing, quality, and marketing staff.
    Support manufacturing in the industrialization of new products and equipment.
    Support Quality in validation of incoming components.
    Prepare engineering change notices.
    Analyze and solve customer problems, developing engineered solutions.
    Develop intellectual property to preserve and enhance the company's position in the market.
    Other duties as assigned.


    Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

    Successful candidates for this position will be self-starting, innovative, hands-on, resourceful and well-organized with excellent interpersonal skills and have a natural curiosity and desire to excel.

    Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering; working knowledge of Electrical Engineering being a plus.
    Must have a minimum of three (3) years' mechanical design experience.
    Proven track record of new product designs that have been manufactured in a reliable and cost-effective manner.
    Experience with FEA and FMEA.Experience with RAMS/reliability engineering a plus.
    Must have knowledge of manufacturing process as they relate to engineering design.
    Prefer experience with Sheetmetal and Fiberglass.
    Must have experience with SolidWorks.
    Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
    Familiar with general manufacturing, machining, fabrication, welding, and finishing practices.
    Ability to manage multiple assignments effectively with a high attention to detail.
    Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, tailored to internal and external audiences.
    Some travel may be required to support projects.

    Physical Demands:

    While performing the duties of this class, an employee is regularly required to operate a variety of automated office machines which includes a computer, printer, facsimile machine, copy machine, calculator, telephone, etc.

    Must be able to use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials. Must be able toexert up to twenty pounds of force occasionally and up to ten pounds of force frequently. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for sedentary work. Ability to travel via plane, auto or train.
