    Role: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

    Business: Mobile Robotics

    Location: Rochester (NY) - will support relocation

    Airbotics Talent have partnered with an advanced Robotics startup who design and manufacture complex mobile robotics. They are now seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to design complex mechanical components and has full ownership of the entire system development. Candidates should be currently based in the US and either local to the Rochester (NY) office or willing to relocate - a process our client are happy to support.

    The Role

    As Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, this role is the most senior of its kind in the business and reports directly to the CTO. Initially as a high impact standalone role, there is potential for the incumbent to develop a team in the future.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Responsible for all mechanical design and development of both the existing and future product lines.
    • Design and verify subsystem/module/components within cost, quality, and performance targets.
    • Oversee engineering release processes, including CAD, drawings, and BOMs.
    • Develop design knowledge through FMEA, DVP&R, and other documentation.
    • Balance design trade-offs between cost, aesthetics, and performance.
    • Ensure architecture solutions meet product attribute targets; identify improvements where needed.
    • Lead and participate in technical design reviews and coordinate prototype testing.

    The Person

    The ideal candidate will have:

    • Experience in designing and developing full mechanical systems of products with moving parts and high levels of complexity ie. mobile robotics, humanoid robotics, mobile construction equipment, yellow goods, industrial automation (ie. robotic arms, robotic spraying systems) etc
    • A Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics Engineering or similar discipline
    • A strong grounding in CAD software such as SolidWorks, Pro-E, AutoCAD etc
    • Previous experience managing projects from cradle to grave
    • An ability to work with autonomy
    • An entrepreneurial mindset, able to operate with agility and willing to support other areas and departments of the business and stakeholders when required
    • Experience traveling with work and comfortable with up to 25% travel
    • Based local to Rochester (NY) or able to relocate to the area
