- 35% - Lead design teams- The department of surgery has asked all faculty and residents for design initiatives. We plan to build teams of surgeons, residents, engineers, and business development trainees. The Design Director will develop a method to evaluate project proposals and an advisory team to help chose 2 to 3 topics per year. The Design Director will assist the teams in the development and implementation of the chosen projects and if appropriate guide projects to commercialization.
- 35% - Develop and lead educational program for students and physicians - Establish a structure and faculty for the course. Advertise the new venture to students and faculty at MUSC, Clemson, the College of Charleston, and the Citadel. The team structure should include a mix of clinical and non-clinical trainees. Each team will be assigned a coach. Key areas for coaching: design, opportunity assessment, interviewing/customer development, product development, angel/venture investment, regulatory, and pitching.
- 30% - Admin of program - The 12-month experiential learning program will focus on postgraduate physicians ,engineering students, medical students and graduate students from other MUSC programs. The teaching program is based on the Stanford biodesign curriculum. The business development will utilize Lean Launchpad by Steve Blank. The Design Director will also serve as interface with the MUSC health system Innovation team and will be responsible for reporting to the University and health system.
