Sports Instructor


Spaulding Adaptive Sports centers (SASC) provides children and adults of all levels of ability the opportunity to live active, healthy lives through participation in a variety of adaptive sports and recreational activities.

A variety of land and water activities are offered in both individual and group settings.

Spaulding Clinicians and Adaptive Sports professionals help choose activities and make adaptations to meet the capabilities and goals of each individual.


Under the supervision of the Network Coordinator, SASC will hire sport specific per diem instructors to complement existing clinical and sports staff in providing adaptive sport and recreation instruction.

These individuals will hold sport specific industry credentials that define their expertise.


These credentials could be held in a multitude of sports including but not limited to: golf - USGA/PGA, alpine skiing - PSIA/AASI, tennis - USPTA, Hockey/Basketball, etc - USOC coaching certificates, or kayaking/canoe - ACA/APW.

A per diem sports instructor may also have a clinical degree (DPT, PT, OT, CTRS, PTA) with a specific skill set that makes them qualified in a specific sport or recreation activity.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Working directly with SASC program staff, plan and execute sport specific programs utilizing your area of unique expertise
  • Responsible for sport specific program instruction/coaching resulting in consistent, high quality program experiences
  • Review participant intakes with SASC staff to determine program/participant equipment needs for each program
  • Assess equipment is in working condition, set up prior to each programming session, as well break down and pack post session.
  • Facilitate appropriate training to all program volunteers and interns, as well as cross training other staff in the specific skills of the sport as needed.
  • Instructor will adhere to SASC program delivery standards/procedures at all events
  • Uses appropriate safety and risk management protocols as related to each specific program
  • Load and drive Spaulding vehicle and trailer to various locations of programming as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education/Degree

Required:
High School Diploma


Preferred:

  • College degree

Experience

  • Prior experience working in the adaptive sports arena
  • Prior experience working with people with disabilities

  • Valid driver's license with no driving violations

  • Coaching, instruction and fitness background
  • Knowledge of adaptive sports and ability to gain an understanding of SASC programming
  • Demonstrate an ability to attain knowledge of adaptive equipment

  • Solid organizational skills, with the ability to collect waivers and programming fees as necessary
  • General disability awareness with adept capacity to assist with participants individual needs
  • Positive, professional demeanor
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work with participants of all ages and level of abilities from pediatric to geriatric
  • Travel required as necessary
  • Willingness to drive Spaulding vehicles and tow equipment to offsite locations as necessary
