Position Summary:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

Provides direction for the children in the classroom, and implements program curriculum.

Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families.


Essential Functions:


  • Ensure Curriculum is developmentally appropriate, meeting the individual physical, social, emotional, and intellectual needs of the participants, as guided by The YMCSA achievement gap.
  • Nurtures children through purposeful programming dedicated to building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families.
  • Supervises the children, classroom, and all activities including ADA accommodations where appropriate. Follows all procedures and standards.
  • Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
  • Cultivates positive relationships, conducts parent conferences, and maintains effective communication with parents. Engages parents as volunteers and connects them to the YMCA.
  • Maintains program site and equipment, include information to but not limited to classroom boards.
  • Maintain an 80% retention for program.
  • Maintains required program records, including but not limited to daily attendance and child care communication forms.
  • Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings and staff trainings.
  • Adhere to Title 22 compliance at all times; including but not limited to child safety and ratios.
  • Assist with planning and attending parent workshops.
  • Work with volunteers and community partners as needed.
  • Ensure all collaborations, accusations and affiliations are maintained.
  • Uphold and exemplify the YMCA's Core values and principles of Character development
  • Minimum of 12 Early Childhood Education Core Units (Human Development, Child in Home & Community, Curriculum)and Infant and Toddler Class if applicable.
16. 12 months teaching experience.


  • Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:


Qualifications:


  • Meets educational and experience qualifications; minimum of 12 Child Development College Units.
  • At least 18 years of age (The age minimum may be higher depending on state law).
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
  • Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.

  • The work is performed both indoors and out.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.
