- Assist in developing, disseminating, and interpreting international marine regulations, as directed, to promote the consistent and proper application of regulations.
- Provide effective liaison with flag Administrations, including technical support as needed.
- Evaluate and coordinate the dissemination of instructions received from regulatory agencies.
- Represent ABS at policy meetings called by various countries' regulatory agencies.
- Maintain filing and listing of Delegation of Authorizations to perform statutory work on behalf of Administrations.
- Assist in the development of Process Instructions and Interpretation/Instructions.
- Monitor issues and regulations relative to safety issues and environmental protection that are undergoing international development.
- Assist in fulfilling IACS obligations and providing technical coordination to IACS tasks, as directed.
- Coordinate and assist in the development of responses concerning IACS policy issues.
- Assist in providing information to maintain client awareness of developing issues and regulations.
- B.S. degree in civil, Structural, naval architecture, Ocean Engineering, Marine, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- M.S. is preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as an Engineer/Surveyor or in an appropriate technical discipline and/or industry preferred.
- A broad knowledge of marine engineering concepts and basic terminology, mainly addressed by international conventions and codes.
- Knowledge and operation of personal computer and word processing.
- Ability to communicate well, orally and in writing, and to professionally reorganize and present information internally and externally.
- Good command of the English language.
- Ability to work well with others.
- A general knowledge of how international maritime regulations are promulgated.
- The ability to identify, analyze, and propose solutions to problems (i.e., the competence to demonstrate complex problem-solving skills).
