    Description

    The Berkeley College Accounting Department is seeking a Staff Accountant. This remote/hybrid position is based out of the Woodland Park, NJ campus. Reporting to the Accounting Supervisor in the Controller's Department, the Staff Accountant performs account analysis, prepares account reconciliations (including bank recs.) and other general ledger accounts, and prepares adjusting/correcting entries. Reviews the reasonableness and accuracy of monthly and year-end account balances. Prepare monthly and year-end accruals. Analyze financial information and prepare financial reports as needed. Plays a significant role during month-end and year-end close. Responsible for recording, summarizing, and analyzing various data.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Performs account analyses and reconciliation of various G/L accounts. Researches and corrects account discrepancies. Journalize monthly entries to update general ledger accounts during monthly close, including accruals.
    • Prepare Balance Sheet and P&L analyses, with related support schedules and reconciliation.
    • Analyze the Actual vs. Prior Year vs. Budgeted results to explain significant variances.
    • Prepare schedules for year-end audit.
    • Respond to inquiries regarding assigned P&L and Balance Sheet accounts, propose adjustments as applicable.
    • Update Operations & Procedure Manual for assigned tasks; documents key processes; and incorporates new delivered methodology/functionality/processes introduced during PeopleSoft upgrades as necessary.
    • Reconcile PeopleSoft interface transactions for student accounts receivable, and tuition revenue, etc. This also includes retracing transactions not successfully interfaced during various feeds, and cross-referencing exception/audit reports.
    • Analyze G/L account activity and recommend adjustments as necessary.
    • Post entries to the general ledger through journal import (e.g. general journal entries, cash receipts, etc.).
    • Other duties as assigned.
    Salary Range: $58,000 - $63,000 per year

    Educational Requirements:
    • BA in Accounting
    Training and/or Experience:
    • Sound understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
    • 2-4 years of General Accounting experience (B/S, P&L account analyses, journal entry preparation, bank reconciliation etc.
    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
    • Strong Excel skills and proficient with other MS Office applications.
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Strong communication skills (written and oral).
    • Highly organized with ability to multitask to meet deadlines.
    Systems Access:

    Knowledge of Access, PeopleSoft NVision, Foxlt, Winzip, Quickbooks.
