Job Description:
The Training Support Technician, under general supervision, will maintain Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) equipment, Dry Chemical Fire Extinguishers equipment and support training programs for the Emergency Services & Training Institute division.
This position will assist Instructional staff with training support as needed and may be required to assist other programs such as Maintenance and Private Sector.
This position will report to the Training Support Foreman-Breathing Air.Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- One year of maintenance/repair experience or combination of the following but not limited to: use of computerbased diagnostics, pneumatic equipment operation, tubing or pipe fitting, any mechanical repair/maintenance, and the use of hand/power tools.
Required Licenses/Certifications:
- Must have a valid motor vehicle operator's license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university or certificate from an accredited trade school.
- Emergency Services experience.
- Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus or respiratory equipment experience.
- Compressor or mechanical experience related to compression systems.
- Electrical experience in troubleshooting or reading wiring diagrams.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work outdoors exposed to various weather conditions, potential allergens, elevated noise levels, and heat.
- Ability to support training delivery for up to 810 hours/day (standing).
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
- Physical conditioning consistent with performing maintenance on equipment and/or movement of training equipment to include standing, walk, sitting, climbing ladders or scaffolding, bending/stooping, kneeling/squatting, reaching, talking, hearing, carrying, lifting, pushing/pulling training equipment up to 80 lbs.
- Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving and/or flying on commercial airlines.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to interpret basic technical drawings, sketches, blue prints, wiring diagrams, and manuals.
- Ability to operate equipment such as forklift, air compressors, and SCBA refill equipment.
- Ability to operate power equipment such as drills, saws, grinders.
- Ability to operate electric, pneumatic and hydraulic tools.
- Ability to follow instructions and communicate effectively to perform job responsibilities.
- Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to always maintain a professional behavior and demeanor.
- Ability to create a positive team approach environment and provide customerfriendly service to both internal and external customers.
- Ability to interact professionally and respectfully with staff, students, and external partners.
Equipment:
- Standard office equipment: computer, keyboard, multifunctional printer, telephone.
- Hand/power tools.
- Training and Program specific equipment.
- Mules/Tugs and Maintenance equipment.
Notifications:
- This position is security sensitive.
- This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.
- This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TEEX regulations and procedures.
- All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and Agency safety requirements.
- As part of TEEX's mission of providing training, developing practical solutions, and saving lives; this position could be required, if called upon, to deploy within the State of Texas as directed by this position's Division Director/HQ Department Head.
- Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving a personal or TEEX vehicle and/or flying on commercial airlines.
- This is a wage position established to accommodate a temporary organizational need. As such, TEEX does not guarantee any set number of hours or length of employment in this role.
- This position must comply with OSHA / NFPA standards, ESTI Respirator Protection Program related to the proper wearing of respirators.
