Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Energy Services Department consists of five groups: (1) Cogeneration Systems (generates electricity and steam, and the distribution of steam throughout campus and UNC Hospitals); (2) Electric Distribution Systems (distribution of electrical power throughout campus); (3) Chilled Water Systems (producing and distributing chilled water throughout campus); (4) Water, Wastewater and Stormwater (for the use and conservation of water, as well as the proper management of stormwater and runoff); and (5) Administration (provides GIS, SCADA, coordination of operational information technologies, strategic planning, and management functions).
Together these five groups provide safe, reliable, environmentally responsible, and cost-effective steam, electricity, chilled water, sanitary sewer, reclaimed water, and potable water utility services to the University's campus in a manner that moves UNC closer to the goals of Three Zeros Environmental Initiative.
Position Summary
The Support Services Associate will provide customer assistance with on-site management of parts and materials used to ensure continuous operation of Cogeneration Systems (CG) and Electric Distribution (ED).
This multifaceted position is responsible for acquiring, receiving, shipping, disbursing; chemicals, inventory, and consumable parts/materials.These responsibilities require the ability to develop relationships, communicate with a diverse customer and vendor base and anticipate service needs.
This position utilizes a computerized work management system, in particular tool tracking, vendor data, purchasing and inventory modules.This position is Emergency Duty/Severe Weather Essential and Communicable Disease Mandatory. The incumbent must report to work during periods of adverse weather or other University emergency.
This position participates in On-Call Rotation.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Ability to identify customers' needs, verify products, evaluate customer satisfaction, and clearly convey information. Ability to establish and maintain vendor relationships. Ability to verify receipts, recognize errors and seek proper resolution assistance. Ability to accurately capture data, compile information and manage inventory. Excellent interpersonal skills and a high degree of accuracy are necessary. Ability to multitask and prioritize. Intermediate working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Teams, and Adobe.
A NC driver's license and the ability to obtain forklift training operation certification are required for this position.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience working with a computerized Inventory tracking program and Preventive Maintenance (PM) work management system (example - Maximo).

Special Physical/Mental Requirements
The environmental conditions range from an air conditioned and heated control room to dusty, hot, humid and cold conditions.
This position will be required to work in all conditions at various lengths of time depending on the need or operational requirements.
Part of the equipment is located outdoors and operation and/or maintenance are required year round.Physical effort required for the position includes, but not limited to:
climbing ladders/stairs, working in confined spaces, being in contact with hazardous materials and lifting/moving up to 50 lbs independently, PPE, including but not limited to safety glasses, safety shoes and hard hats must be worn at all times in posted areas.
