    Bushfire and Forest Services (BFS) Group is the public land manager for million hectares of State forests, including delivery and maintenance of recreation assets, tourism services and forest health activities, and leads DEECA's (the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action) works across the state in preparing for and responding to fire and other emergencies, to reduce impacts on people, property and the environment.

    BFS Group plays a key role in working alongside emergency services under the Victorian Government's 'all communities, all emergencies' operating framework, including to meet DEECA's responsibilities before, during and after an emergency event.

    Director, Forest and Fire Operations / Deputy Chief Fire Officer

    The Director, Forest and Fire Operations /Deputy Chief Fire Officer is a 'place-based' leader responsible for the design and delivery of forest, fire and emergency management operations, and for supporting the delivery of broader departmental priorities across the Grampians region. The Director will implement Victoria's risk-based approach of fire management to enhance fire prevention, preparedness and response operations for local communities.

    The Director will be a strategic leader with strong operational and resource management experience preferably in forest/park/land management operations, or fire/emergency management. You will build a flexible and agile workforce; develop a high performance culture that embraces innovation, continuous improvement, safety performance, and productivity.

    You will adopt a community-centred approach to place-based leadership, underpinned by strong partnerships with land and emergency management agencies, as well as Traditional Owners and other key stakeholders to manage public land for its environmental and recreational values.

    We seek highly qualified candidates with the requisite operational skills and leadership expertise for this critical position. You will demonstrate leadership of an inclusive culture of accountability, professionalism and service excellence that creates a highly integrated and engaged team operating across all DEECA portfolios and other government entities.
