JOB SUMMARY:

The Director will autonomously manage multiple psychosocial oncology research projects.

The role involves planning, overseeing, and conducting research to enhance the understanding and support for cancer patients and caregivers, including contributing to CSC's existing Cancer Experience Registry research.

In addition to research responsibilities, the Director will collaborate with the VP, Research to secure funding for new research ventures, involving interactions with funders, sponsors, and advisors to define project scope, approach, and desired outcomes.

After project development, the Director will organize and execute the launch of new projects and oversee their implementation, including recruitment and meticulous data analysis and interpretation.

The Director should have extensive training and experience in social or behavioral science as a mixed-methodologist, demonstrating success in both quantitative/survey and qualitative research.

The Director will also have a vital role in disseminating research findings through various channels such as conference presentations, manuscript preparation and submission, blogs, articles, webinars, and supporting amplification efforts.

The Director will collaborate across departments to conceptualize research that furthers CSC's mission to support individuals affected by cancer, develop compassionate communities, and eliminate barriers to care.

Research priorities include understanding the needs and experiences of cancer patients and caregivers to enhance policy, education, and services, as well as to demonstrate the effectiveness of these interventions.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Research Project Management and Execution:


  • Support ongoing research projects, including CSC's Cancer Experience Registry survey research and upcoming cross-departmental mixed-method research initiatives
  • Take the lead in projects from conception to dissemination, providing support in all research-related areas (e.g., research design, recruitment, IRB submission, interview guide and survey development, analytic plan, data monitoring and cleaning, analysis, reports and presentations)
  • Identify and secure resources and expertise required for proposed research projects; communicate project requirements to Vice President, Research and other team members
  • Develop project budgets and collaborate with the Research Coordinator to monitor progress against the defined scope of work and contract budget

Research Communication, Dissemination, and Support:


  • Contribute to and/or lead the complete process of developing scientific manuscripts, abstracts, symposia, and other forms of data dissemination
  • Effectively collaborate with internal and external advisors, partners, funders, and stakeholders on research project planning, design, program implementation, and data dissemination
  • Identify new partners and expand engagement for funding, research collaborations, service delivery, and data dissemination; offer scientific support to CSC leadership in discussions with potential study sponsors
  • Identify and involve advisory committee members when necessary for new research initiatives, resource planning, and data dissemination
  • Provide research advice and assistance to other CSC departments (Program, Education, Policy) and Network Partners
Any other duties assigned by the Vice President, Research and Executive Leadership


SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Doctoral degree in social and behavioral sciences, psychology, health economics, social work, public health, or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years postgraduate experience and a keen interest in behavioral research relevant to cancer and chronic illnesses, including epidemiology, public health, psychology, psychometrics, or related fields
  • Experience in mixed-methods research on psychosocial outcomes and/or interventions for chronic illnesses/cancer; additional experience in program effectiveness/outcomes, implementation science, scale development and validation, and/or health economics and outcomes research is advantageous
  • Proficiency with SPSS and/or Stata (for quantitative analysis) and Nvivo (for qualitative analysis); ability to conceptualize and support advanced analytical plans and statistical modeling
  • Able to lead/support multiple research projects
