- Responsible for the pre-operative assessment and evaluation of each potential total joint patient.
- Responsible for patient education included but not limited to 1:1 teaching and preoperative classes.
- Utilizes and monitors a data tracking system for orthopedic outcomes through the care continuum such as patient satisfaction, surgical data, patient outcomes, and identifying areas that require improvement, in order to provide key statistics and outcomes at governance meetings.
- Manage, monitor and assess current quality metrics required by national organizations and evidence-based practice for optimal clinical outcomes.
- Facilitates quarterly total joint meetings with surgeons and multidisciplinary team members.
- Develops, facilitates, and monitors selected performance metrics and ensures compliance with all activities required to achieve and maintain certification through AAAHC.
- Act as a point person and liaison during the patient's stay at the center. Coordinates care issues with the surgeon and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
- Complete post-op/discharge instructions with the patient and caregiver in conjunction with the Recovery Care Unit Staff.
- Works in conjunction with leadership and nursing staff to ensure competency and understanding the needs of the orthopedic patient.
- Ensures physician satisfaction by monitoring their needs, developing relationships and following through with problem resolution, recognition and performance improvement, including regular visits with surgeons' office staff if needed.
- Associate Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma required.
- 5 years applicable clinical experience.
- Minimum 2 years in an acute care orthopedic setting, preferred.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Operational and strategic development experience preferred.
- Active RN license as required by state of employment or appropriate compact licensure
- Valid BCLS - America Red Cross or America Heart Association (transition to ARC required upon renewal)
- Orthopedic Nurse Certification (ONC) preferred.

The Total Joint Program Nurse Navigator (TJNN) is responsible for overall coordinating and implementing the center's Total Joint Replacement Program.
The TJCN will be guiding the total joint patient and their family through the program, from preoperative assessment and education through the continuum of care.
