- Performs pre-analytical specimen processing including stamping in, verifying I.D., identifying tests, and evaluating specimen quality and appropriate test set up.
- Performs computer order entry and inquiry functions.
- Provides courteous and timely customer service to providers calling into the lab.
- Performs, documents, and evaluates daily QC and follows procedure when QC is out of range.
- Performs routine operation and maintenance of instrumentation in the work area such as centrifuges, refrigerators, and freezers.
- Maintains workplace in a neat and orderly fashion. Continuously monitors specimen workflow. Ensures quick response for STAT and other timed tests.
- Participates in departmental continuous improvement projects as necessary.
- High School/GED required.
- Bachelor's degree in Science-Based STEM disciplines preferred.
- 3 months of experience required.
- Skills to read and understand instructions, add and subtract numbers, and make comparisons between numbers and letters.
- Ability to exchange information on factual matters, schedule appointments, greet visitors, explain hospital policies, and/or relay messages to appropriate personnel. This type of interaction requires courtesy and tact when dealing with patients, visitors and/or hospital employees. More sensitive situations may be referred to others as appropriate.
