    Leadership Academy Advisor

    New York City or RemotePrograms - College and Career /Part-time, Temporary /RemoteThe Girls Who Code Leadership Academy is a semester-long program for college-aged women and non-binary students who are pursuing degrees and careers in the tech industry. Participants (Fellows) meet weekly throughout the semester (virtually) for a series of activities, panels, workshops, and discussions. They also attend Girls Who Code College & Career programming and meet individually with their advisors for feedback and guidance. The students submit proposals for Give Back Projects and spend the semester executing on their plan. There will be 8 cohorts of Fellows, each with their own Advisor. Each Advisor will also collaborate with alumni from Leadership Academy - who will provide some support in technical review and community building. Advisors will meet with each other weekly to collaborate and troubleshoot.The Advisor will be responsible for managing one cohort of approximately 25-30 Fellows. They will plan and lead cohort meetings (based on Girls Who Code outlines), facilitate workshops, manage inbound Fellow inquiries, meet individually with Fellows, and provide feedback on their materials and proposals. They will also be responsible for some administrative tasks, including tracking attendance, logging submission of materials, and sending reminders. This is a part time (up to 15 hours per week), remote, temporary position from July 20th, through December 5th, .

    Position Requirements:

  • 2+ years of experience advising students or counseling students on career readiness and/or leadership development, including the creation of materials (resume, LinkedIn), professional practices (informational interviews, follow-up communications), etc.
  • Experience with students in college or a job readiness program preferred
  • Experience facilitating group activities virtually (through platforms like Zoom, Google Meet, etc)
  • Comfort with Google Docs and Google Sheets (for tracking, editing, commenting, etc).
  • Experience providing students with constructive, positive, written and verbal feedback
  • Experience drafting and sending clear, concise communications
  • Preferred but not required: Experience or knowledge of the tech industry, computer science, or adjacent fields, or technical experience (examples: college computer science instructor, high school computer science teacher, tech recruiter, career coach with experience in the tech industry).
  • Reliable, strong internet connection and access to a computer (one will not be provided)
  • Language Requirement: English
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to quickly learn how to utilize new technology platforms
  • Fastidious record keeping and organization
  • Customer service orientation, helpful attitude

    • Schedule requirements & additional information:

  • Required Dates: Tuesday evenings (from 4:30-7:00 pm ET) from August 13 - November 19 to facilitate their cohort meetings.
  • There are two required onboarding sessions , each has two available options for attendance:
  • Session 1: Option 1: Monday 7/22 1-3 ET on Zoom
  • Session 1: Option 2: Wednesday 7/ ET on Zoom
  • Session 2: Option 1: Monday 7/29 1-3 ET on Zoom
  • Session 2: Option 2: Wednesday 7/ ET on Zoom
  • You must be available for one option for each session 1 and 2.
  • Advisors will also have 1 hour weekly check-ins to be scheduled
  • There will be a small number of additional virtual events Advisors are required to attend to support their cohorts, which will be provided in advance.
  • Advisors will set a consistent schedule of availability for their cohort members to select for scheduling one-on-one meetings as needed.
