    Weld County Regional Communications Center (WCRCC) is a busy emergency communications center located in Greeley, Colorado. We serve the entire Weld County community including all police, fire, and EMS agencies. Our teams spend their shifts answering 911 emergency calls, non-emergency calls and providing support to our first responders.


    The Emergency Communications Specialist is a highly skilled public safety professional who serves as the vital link between citizens and first responders.

    The Emergency Communications Specialist enjoys a demanding, fast paced environment, thrives under pressure, and is passionate about continually pursuing the highest level of excellence while serving the community and supporting public safety.

    As an applicant for this position, you should be aware of Senate Bill 19-085, the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act.

    The act requires employers to announce the pay range for job openings. This range encompasses the nine pay steps available should you receive the position and demonstrate satisfactory performance over time.


    This position is non-exempt from the minimum wage and overtime requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is therefore eligible for overtime pay.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    The following job duties are established to outline the basic duties and responsibilities of the above captioned position. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.


    Emergency Communications (95%):

    • Promptly answer incoming emergency and non-emergency phone calls.
    • Quickly assess the situation being reported and determine the correct course of action.
    • Efficiently generate accurate calls for service or update existing calls by entering incident details into the computer aided dispatch system.
    • Continually monitor and quickly respond to radio traffic.
    • Accurately track unit activity and status.
    • Ensure the timely and accurate dissemination of information.
    • Monitor a variety of public safety communications systems to support the delivery of public safety services.
    • Quickly and accurately execute requests from field units.
    • Remain calm and composed at all times.
    • Provide exceptional customer service.
    • Engage in ongoing continuing education.
    • Maintain availability to work all shifts (days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays) with hours and days off subject to change, sometimes on short notice.
    • Maintain availability to work overtime shifts as needed.
    • Maintain consistent and reliable attendance during scheduled work hours including assigned overtime shifts.
    • Maintain on-call availability and the ability to report within 2 hours of being called in during scheduled on-call hours.

    Qualifications


    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • A high school diploma or GED.
    • Be at least 21 years of age.
    • Minimum typing speed of 40 wpm.
    • At least 2 years of experience in a customer service focused role.
    • Must possess a driver's license by the employment start date and maintain a valid license for the duration of employment.
    • Must pass a background check prior to employment start date.
    • Must pass a substance use screening prior to employment start date.
    • Must be able to obtain Colorado Crime Information Center (CCIC)/National Crime Information Center (NCIC) certification and maintain certification for the duration of employment.
    • Must be able to obtain Internal Academies of Emergency Dispatch (IAED) Emergency Medical Dispatching (EMD) certification within six months of employment and maintain certification for the duration of employment.
    • Must be able to obtain CPR certification within two months of employment.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Previous experience working in a public safety emergency communications center.
    • CCIC/NCIC Certification.
    • IAED EMD Certification.
    • American Heart Association CPR Certification.

    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, controls, or equipment, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear. The employee frequently is required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to walk, stoop, and kneel.
    • The employee may occasionally be required to lift, carry and/or move up to 25 pounds.
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include visual acuity to Colorado driver's license requirements.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    • This is an enclosed environment with multi-dispatch stations requiring close communication with co-workers and limited privacy.
    • Must remain at a fixed workstation for extended periods of time.
    • Workload fluctuations occur frequently and within a short span of time.
    • The noise level is usually moderate.
