- Independently represent Californians for Safety and Justice in the state Capitol.
- Shepherd legislation on criminal justice reform and smart justice investments.
- Maintain deep knowledge of the policy landscape in Sacramento and key counties.
- Advance the organization's policy agenda and support crime survivors and TimeDone initiatives.
- Build relationships with legislators and key stakeholders.
- Conduct research on criminal justice policies and provide expert testimony at legislative hearings.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to advocate for policy reforms.
- Bachelor's degree required.
- At least 3 years of experience in legislative, legal, or policy advocacy.
- Experience in the California criminal justice system is a plus.
- Ability to work in diverse coalitions and uphold ethical standards.
- Strong policy writing skills and knowledge of criminal justice reform policies in California.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment.
- Some travel may be required.
- Capacity to communicate using various technological tools.
- Ability to read, write, and convey information accurately.

About the Role
The Government Affairs Manager plays a vital role in advancing the organization's advocacy agenda, a cornerstone of our mission and strategies.
The role involves fostering relationships with policymakers, supporting policy work, engaging with crime survivor networks, advocating for TimeDone, and building coalitions with allied organizations. Collaborating with the CA Government Affairs Director, the Government Affairs Manager works closely with the entire organization. The position, based in Sacramento, includes occasional travel across California.Responsibilities
