    Position Information


    Description & Details:

    The Department of Mechanical Engineering at North Dakota State University is seeking candidates for a Post-Doctoral appointment working in the area of mechanical testing, materials characterization, and design of advanced adhesive materials and systems.

    The candidates should have adequate knowledge of metals, polymers, materials characterization, mechanical testing, finite element analysis, and engineering design.

    This position requires extensive knowledge in the field of material testing under various conditions, finite element analysis, constitutive characterization, and modeling of polymer-based materials.

    Experience in the area of adhesives and related characterization will be a plus.

    Prior knowledge and experience with architected materials, 4D materials, and responsive materials would also be an asset for this position.

    Other responsibilities for both positions will include documentation of research findings, meeting with other research staff, working with graduate students, collaboration on and presentation of scientific papers, grant and proposal writing, and industrial outreach.

    These positions require a high level of understanding of materials science, physics, and mechanics of materials.

    The successful candidates will work closely with Dr. Fardad Azarmi from the Mechanical Engineering Department and Dr. Andrew Croll from the Department of Physics at NDSU.

    Work Schedule:

    Full-time, 40hrs/wk, 12 month contract.

    Advertised Salary:

    Up to $48,000 based on experience and qualifications.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    PhD in the field of Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or closely related fields.

    Excellent written and oral communication skills.

    Expertise in experimental techniques in mechanical engineering research.

    Knowledge of polymers, metals, and composite materials.

    Prior experience in the area of adhesive materials.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Knowledge of finite element analysis.

    Prior experience working in interdisciplinary teams.

    Adequate knowledge in adhesives.
