Legal Secretary I: Entry-level: Provides legal, clerical, and basic administrative support within an assigned County department/division. Responsibilities may differ, depending upon the department/division to which assigned. Initially under close supervision, incumbents of this class perform routine legal, reception, office, and records management work that does not require previous specialized experience. This class is distinguished from the Legal Secretary II in that the latter provides secretarial support for more complex programs and is more experienced.
Legal Secretary II: Experienced-level: performs a variety of specialized, complex legal, secretarial, and clerical support for an assigned County department/division, including coordinating assigned programs and projects, providing general information to the public, maintaining databases, and other support work. This class is distinguished from the Legal Secretary III classification in that the latter provides high-level support using considerable independent judgment.
Legal Secretary III: Advanced-level: Performs a variety of specialized, complex legal, secretarial, and clerical support for an assigned County department/division, including coordinating assigned programs and projects, providing general information to the public, maintaining databases, and other support work. This class is distinguished from the Legal Secretary II classification in that it provides difficult legal secretarial duties, which involve considerable independent judgment and may provide direction, guidance, and assist in the evaluation of lower-level staff. This class is distinguished from the Legal Secretary Supervisor classification in that the latter provides the most difficult legal secretarial duties, which involve considerable independent judgment and supervision to assigned lower-level staff.

Legal Secretary II
$ $25.41 Hourly / $1, $2,032.80 Bi-Weekly / $43, $52,852.80 Annually
Legal Secretary III:
$21.97- $26.70 Hourly / $1, $2,136.00 Bi-Weekly / $45, $55,536.00 Annually

Education, Experience & Licenses
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Legal Secretary I, II, and III: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade supplemented by education and/or training in secretarial skills or relevant computer software applications programs.
Legal Secretary I: One (1) year of varied clerical support experience preferably involving support to attorneys, court officers, or law enforcement personnel.
Legal Secretary II: In addition to the above, two (2) years of legal secretarial support experience equivalent to that of a Legal Secretary I in a public agency.
Legal Secretary III: In addition to the above, three (3) years of legal secretarial support experience equivalent to that of a Legal Secretary II in a public agency.
Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
LICENSE & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The department is currently recruiting for one (1) vacancy.
In addition, Tehama County is establishing an eligibility list to fill future vacancies for a Legal Secretary I/II/III, as well as subsequent vacancies which occur during the life of the eligibility list.
New employees should anticipate being hired at the beginning step of the salary range. Candidates who exceed entry level qualifications may be considered, with approval from the Board of Supervisors, for placement at other than A step.
