    UCSC Resource Centers offers counter-spaces for students who are queer, trans, non-binary, womxn, and people of color, and engages the broader campus about issues and challenges facing our communities.

    The Resource Centers impact institutional policies and campus climate, and RCs offer programs and services to foster student's personal and professional growth, through community-based leadership development.

    The Resource Centers' vision is for students to feel fully affirmed in their diverse and intersecting identities, empowered in their academic success, and graduate with a sense of belonging.


    Resource Centers include the following units:
    African American Resource and Cultural Center (AARCC), American Indian Resource Center (AIRC), Asian American/Pacific Islander Resource Center (AA/PIRC),

    About the Division:


    The UC Santa Cruz Division of Student Affairs and Success (DSAS), led by the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Success, consists of nearly 250 team members spanning 3 major units and 21 departments.

    The division provides campus-wide coordination and leadership for student success programs, activities, and initiatives. DSAS also does work through a range of resource centers dedicated to providing direct student support. The division's work is grounded in educational equity, institutional responsibility, and an unfettered commitment to supporting the whole student.     About Student Success and Equity (SSE):


    The Student Success and Equity (SSE) portfolio of departments is a branch of DSAS focused on academic support services, advising/counseling, student life/co-curricular programming, student identity development and retention/student success initiatives.

    Student Success and Equity provides services to the campus community with over 17,000 undergraduate and graduate students and has over 64 career employees and 475 student staff employees operating in 8 facilities/locations.

    The Student Success and Equity area includes a wide array of multi-disciplinary academic and non-academic units including: Disability Resource Center (DRC), Educational Opportunity Programs (EOP), Learning Support Services, Services for Transfer and Re-entry Students (STARS), Renaissance Scholars Program (including Foster Youth), Veteran Resource Center, African American Resource and Cultural Center (AARCC), American Indian Resource Center (AIRC), Asian American/Pacific Islander Resource Center (AA/PIRC), Chicano/Latino Resource Center (El Centro), Women's Center (WC), the Lionel Cantu Queer Center (LGBTQ+), Undocumented Student Services (USS), the UCSC Hispanic Serving Institution Initiatives (HSI), African Black and Caribbean Student Success, Career Success, and campus committees/programs, and the Administrative and Business team for the unit.

    JOB SUMMARY
    Under the general supervision of the American Indian Resource Center (AIRC)


    Director, the Program Coordinator will coordinate multiple programs, provide substantial administrative support, and perform supervisory duties of student interns for the AIRC.

    The AIRC Program Coordinator will work with student populations and issues as they relate to academic success, equity, community/belonging, and personal development in a comprehensive university setting.

    The incumbent will also assist in developing and executing innovative co-curricular, academic, educational and collaborative programming amongst all the Resource Centers in partnership with other Division of Student Success units and academic departments, with particular focus on programs that serve American Indian/Native American/Alaskan Native students.

    Resource Centers include African American Resource and Cultural Center (AARCC), American Indian Resource Center (AIRC), Asian American/Pacific Islander Resource Center (AA/PIRC),

    El Centro:
    Chicanx Latinx Resource Center, UCSC Womxn's Center, and Lionel Cantu Queer Resource Center (Cantu Queer Center).

    Using professional student services theories and concepts, the AIRC Program Coordinator performs a range of duties and responsibilities within a Student Life program.

    The AIRC Program Coordinator works

    independently to provide information and interpretation of clearly defined policies, procedures and regulations.

    The AIRC Program Coordinator receives direction regarding more complex issues and / or program(s), identifies individual student needs for programs and services, and advises on appropriate programs and resources.

    Budgeted Salary:
    $ $29.24 / Hourly.

    Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.

    Under California law, the University of California, Santa Cruz is required to post a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role.

    JOB DUTIES
    50% - Program Planning

    Provides essential support services for a student program(s) and / or provides basic academic support services for the American Indian/Native American/Alaskan Native communities at UC Santa Cruz.


    Assists Resource Center Directors and Specialists in producing and promoting large-scale events and project management, with particular focus on programs and events out of the American Indian Resource Center; such as contacting guests and coordinating travel, schedules, and day of program volunteer coordination and logistic details.

    Plans and coordinates logistics for AIRC programs and activities such as the Fall Welcome, Amah Mutsun Speaker Series, and annual Year End Graduation Ceremony.

    Plans and coordinates specific cultural activities aimed at outreach, recruitment, and retention of historically underrepresented American Indian/Native American/Alaskan Native students within such as New Native Student Orientation.

    Develops and oversees community service projects; handles all aspects of program coordination, including finances, fundraising, speaker/facilitator relations, content development, publicity, and necessary materials.

    Evaluates programs in writing, including statistical data; reports regularly on content and success of programs.


    Maintains relationships with internal and external organization's stakeholders, particularly internal and external organizations that serve American Indian/Native American/Alaskan Native, people of color communities, important to program success.

    Plans and coordinates collaborative programs with Resource Centers, campus units, academic departments and student groups.

    In partnership with other professional staff at the American Indian Resource Center, co-develops and implements training for various campus units, including residential staff, student groups, and classes.

    25% - Advising and Supervising Students

    Provides transactional advising and guidance to student leaders participating in the AIRC and the People of Color Sustainability Collective internships programs.

    Facilitates student development in leadership, communication skills, project coordination and in establishing goals.


    Provides general supervision of student workers, volunteers, and interns; provides training, orientation, supervision and evaluation of student staff and volunteers who work on various projects in collaboration with the AIRC Director, and Graduate Assistant.

    Assists in selection, hiring, and training of student interns and volunteers.

    Maintains commitment to recruitment and management efforts that will support the achievement of campus/departmental affirmative action goals and enhance staff diversity.

    Recruits, trains, and coordinates volunteers for large-scale programs, including creating Google forms, communicating with students, support with publicity and assigning tasks.

    Advises Student Program Coordinators and Lead Interns on program development, learning outcomes, and project management.


    Under the guidance of the AIRC Director, RC Directors, or RC specialists, resolves non-complex individual cases regarding student affairs or student life.


    Advises individual students and student staff/interns on academic, career, and personal issues; makes needed referrals; develops and updates referral listings.

    Monitors student intern academic performance and maintains accurate grade reporting information.

    25% - Administrative Support

    Serves as an advisor to a small student service operation, which may include training students and staff, preparing budgets, and fiscal analysis.


    Represents the AIRC Director at relevant campus committee meetings; serve as primary administrative support for staff and committees requiring staff participation; responsible for minute preparation during weekly professional and student staff meetings.

    Supervises and maintain student intern schedules, work logs and chore tasks within the space, as needed.
    Coordinates American Indian Resource Center staff and student participation and schedule for on-campus resource fairs.

    Develops and maintains comprehensive knowledge of campus and unit policies, procedures and regulations related to unit programming; furnishes such information as necessary and makes referrals as appropriate.

    Establishes work standards and office procedures and ensure consistent application, in consultation with the American Indian Resource Center Director.
    Manages facilities, reservations, office supplies, and equipment.

    Assists in fiscal management, including creating and closing Purchase Orders, reviewing encumbrances, and submitting necessary forms for purchases, reimbursements, and other fiscal matters.

    May provide recommendations and suggestions for changes and / or development of new activities and services.


    Assesses programming needs; works with American Indian/Native American/Alaskan Native communities to design and implement programs; develops programming with student organizations, colleges, resource centers, and other campus units.

    Maintains databases of AIRC internship program alumni, staff/faculty affiliated with AIRC programs, and student leaders from American Indian/Native American/Alaskan Native groups.

    Maintains archives of events; designs materials to evaluate, assess, and maintain statistics and produce reports on programming events.


    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
    Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
    Experience in creating, implementing, and publicizing diverse, successful, mostly low-budget large-and small-scale events.
    Initiative, resourcefulness, and problem-solving skills.
    Attention to detail.

    Organization skills and abilities sufficient to independently establish priorities and complete concurrent assignments with frequent interruptions and noisy work environment.

    Strong cultural competency skills to engage with individuals from diverse backgrounds, particularly those with identities served by this Resource Center.

    Experience working with diverse student populations, particularly with American Indian/Native American/Alaskan Native students.

    Knowledge/understanding of diversity issues in higher education, trauma-informed practices, and Native pedagogies, particularly related to American Indian/Native American/Alaskan Native communities.

    Related administrative experience sufficient to provide support functions to the Resource Center Director and staff.

    Interpersonal and communication skills; ability to give, receive and record clear, concise information or directions (written and oral), facilitate discussions, and mediate conflict resolutions.

    Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy, sensitivity and helpfulness when interacting with students, faculty and staff from diverse cultural or socio-economic backgrounds or handling sensitive issues.

    Ability to produce detailed reports and documents; ability to analyze data, present findings, and suggest resolutions.

    Ability to learn policies and procedures from both verbal and written sources; ability to apply and explain office policies and procedures with consistency.

    Knowledge and experience using standard office computer applications such as Google Email and Calendars, Word, Excel, database software.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
    Indigenous Studies.
    Native American History.
    Critical Race and Ethnics Studies.
    Experience with advising, especially to college-age students; experience working with student organizations and campus departments and committees.
    Experience in website creation or content management.

    SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
    Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.
    Ability to work long periods of time at a computer with or without accommodation.

    The selected candidate will be required to work primarily on campus, with periods of remote work possible based on operational needs, and be able to fulfill requirements of the UCSC telecommuting agreement.

    Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as directed.
    Selected candidate will be required to complete training within established time frames as directed including UC compliance training.
    Ability to maintain appearance and conduct suitable for working in a professional setting.
