    Description

    Summary:

    Under the generalsupervision of the Manager of Child Life/Child Development,interacts with patients and families, evaluates their developmentskills and psychosocial needs and provides them with a variety ofappropriate and purposeful medical play and developmentalexperiences that will elevate their quality of life during healthcare visit and enhance their personal development. FacilitatesChild Life advocacy through collaboration with other health careproviders.

    The Children's Hospital of SanAntonio, established in 1959, was the first children's hospital inSouth-Central Texas. Located downtown, this 190-plus-bed hospitalserves more than 70,000 children annually from San Antonio, SouthTexas and around the world. The hospital (in partnership withBaylor College of Medicine) is the only academic children'shospital in San Antonio. Our highly specialized services meet theunique medical needs of children, from Pediatric and NeonatalIntensive Care to Children's Emergency Services, the latesttreatments for deformities of the spine including titanium ribimplants and halo traction, a Heart Center, a specialized asthmaprogram, a highly regarded Cancer and Blood Disorders Center, andgrowing maternal services to include consultation, delivery, andmaternal fetal medicine.

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree in Child Life or relatedfield is required.
    • Master's degree in relatedfield is preferred.
    • Must have completed aChild Life internship from an accredited Child Life TeachingProgram
    • Must have knowledge of growth anddevelopment and patient/family reactions to hospitalization andcoping strategies.
    • Must have an understandingof communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Must have a working knowledge of educationaldevelopment.
    • Must have an understanding ofhospital policies and a system's knowledge of medical terminologyand medical procedures.
    • Must also be able toproblem solve, be creative, take initiative, and workindependently
    • Bilingual- English / Spanishpreferred
    • Previous experience working withchildren required.
    • Previous experience withtherapeutic use of play materials/activities isrequired.
    • Must obtain and maintain Child LifeCertification within one (1) year of hire.
    • CPR certification is preferred. CPRcertification required within 90 days of hire
