    00 Salary/yearJob ShiftFull TimeJob CategoryEducationDescriptionJob OverviewUnder the direction of the Principal, the Dean of School Culture plays a central role in the development and preservation of a strong, positive school culture.

    A member of the leadership team, the Dean oversees the behavioral and academic progress of students and is responsible for maintaining the school's culture among students, staff, and families.

    The Dean will ensure that the school's culture is reflected in all aspects of the middle school experience.
    Essential FunctionsSchool Culture/DisciplineMaintain high standards for student conduct and ensure all students are safe and fully engaged in learning.
    Hold students accountable to Synergy's expectations and implement Synergy Quantum Academy's school-wide discipline plan.
    Manage student discipline, including handling behavior referrals and parent/family follow-up.
    Support staff with implementing appropriate and restorative consequences for infractions and offenses and follow through with behavior management plans.

    Drive the effective and consistent implementation of Schoolwide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and Trauma Informed Mindset, Approach, and Practices.

    Coordinate consequences for behavior including after school reflection, detention, and Saturday School.
    Assist with student supervision during lunch, transitions, after school dismissal, and other supervision when needed.
    Coordinate and conduct daily random metal detector and locker searches in accordance with LAUSD's current Policy Bulletin.
    Build relationships with families, keep them well-informed, and support their needs.

    Proactively identify at-risk students using a variety of metrics and create a plan to support them behaviorally and academically, collaborating with appropriate school staff as needed.

    Work with the SART team and coordinate and conduct home visits for students who have issues with discipline, attendance, and/or tardies.

    Oversee schoolwide programs that support students' socio-emotional development and build conflict resolution skills, such as MENtorship and peer mediation.
    Plan and lead professional development on school culture, classroom management, behavior management, restorative justice, and other topics as needed.
    Assist with coordination of student transition activities, including Summer Bridge, to support students transitioning from elementary to middle school.
    Work with SQA's Dean of Students and Athletics to support students transitioning from middle school to high school.
    Work with the Counseling team and Grade Level leads to support grade level intervention supports.
    Serve as Acting Administrator when the Principal and Assistant Principal are off campus.

    Day to Day Operations/Communications Maintain a professional manner when working with students, staff, parents/family members, and community members via both written and oral communication.

    Assist with the day-to-day operations of the school in accordance with school policies.
    Demonstrate knowledge and support of Synergy's mission, vision, values, policies, procedures, and charter petition.
    Maintain safety procedures to ensure campus security.

    Willing to learn, willing to work hard, is a team player, has a 'whatever it takes' attitude, and is willing to help out in any way needed.

    Must be available to attend meetings in the evenings and on the weekends.
    Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
    QualificationsEducation and Qualifications Possess a California Teaching Credential and or a PPS Credential.
    Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of and commitment to the school's mission and vision.
    Exhibit strong experience in enforcing school-wide discipline policies.
    Has at least three years of work experience in a secondary school setting.
    Work with attention to detail and able to meet deadlines.
    Communicate well via both written and oral communication means.

    Possess strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact effectively with staff members, parents, district personnel, vendors, and other external parties.

    Proficient in the use of computers, including but not limited to word processing, spreadsheets, multimedia presentations, e-mail, the Internet, and digital media.

    Fluent in Spanish preferred but not required.
    Able to lift heavy objects up to 30 lbs.
