- Participates in the construction, installation, renovation, maintenance and repair of District facilities by utilizing tools, materials and/or equipment appropriate to the maintenance trade
- Performs skilled journey level work for the assigned trade
- Leads and serves as the technical expert for an assigned crew; Guides, directs and coach others regarding application and interpretation of technical trade issues
- Plans, priorities and assigns the work tasks of crew members
- Instructs crew members in the proper work methods and standards; monitors crew work quality; insures adherence to time schedules and safe work practices, provides performance feedback and input into performance evaluations
- Identifies areas needing repairs and maintenance and takes corrective action
- Maintains accurate records of material and costs.
- Provides input on the selection of crew members
- May on occasion assist the Supervisor with getting quotes for contract assignments
- Performs related duties as assigned
- High School Diploma or equivalent supplemented by specialized training in the assigned trade
- 5 years of increasingly responsible experience in the assigned trade

- Grounds: Valid driver's class "A" CDL restricted license; Possession of NCDA&CS Certified License with Turf endorsement, or ability to obtain within 18 months of hire; NCDA&CS Registered Technician card or Certified Applicator card with P phase
- Thorough knowledge of standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment utilized in the appropriate maintenance trade
- Considerable knowledge of work hazards and applicable safety precautions associated with assigned area of work.

- Working knowledge of District purchasing policies and practices.
- Some knowledge of the laws and regulations related to supervision.
- Advanced skill in the operation of equipment, tools, and instruments used for assigned work areas
- Skilled in the operation of computers and related equipment.
- Basic skill in writing routine reports and documents.
- Ability to assign and supervise the work of others, provide instruction and lead a small crew
- Ability to understand and follow oral instructions.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing
- Ability to read and interpret documents and construction drawings.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, and the public.
- Skills requiring repetitive motor coordination with finger dexterity most (5 to 8 hours) of a normal work shift
- Required to exert physical effort part (up to 4 hours) of a normal work shift in handling objects over 30 pounds
- Occasionally (less than 2 hrs./shift) handle/work with biohazards or risks for potential job-related injury, rarely coming in contact with hazardous materials
- There is periodic exposure to unpleasant conditions but the work is still viewed as relatively comfortable.

Summary: Under general direction of the Maintenance Supervisor I, the Crew Chief assigns, monitors, and participates in the work of staff involved in the construction, installation, renovation, maintenance and repair of District buildings, grounds, systems and properties. The position gives day-to-day direction and serves as the technical expert for an assigned maintenance crew.
