Job Summary:


  • The Maintenance Instructor will provide both classroom and facilitybased training for all levels on preventative and corrective maintenance techniques and procedures for all Subway Operations transit vehicles; The Instructor will also ensure the safety of passengers and employees through proper instruction and enforcement of Authority standards and policies

Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Will conduct classroom and field instruction of Subway Operations maintenance employees by providing technical instruction in all aspects of facility logistics and vehicle repair and diagnosis, working closely with facility level personnel both as a technical advisor and handson trainer.
  • Review performance indicators to determine effectiveness of maintenance programs.
  • Assist in the development of training programs, PowerPoint presentations, films, handouts and/or written exams for the professional development and promotion of employees.
  • Implement and maintain manual and computerized systems to monitor training activities.
  • Ensure budgetary goals are met and that all work is performed in a timely and costeffective manner.
  • Evaluate the level and manner of repair work completed; and produce technical reports and presentations.
  • Conduct investigations of accidents and incidents.
  • Drive a company or personal vehicle to visit work sites and assist at emergencies and events, and/or transport crews or equipment as needed.
  • Familiarity with the MBTA Safety Plan as well as the position's outlined responsibilities.
  • Ensure the safety of passengers and employees through the enforcement of Authority standards and policies.
  • Respond to each inquiry, whether from a customer, vendor or coworker in a courteous and professional manner consistent with the Authority's quality standard.
  • Respond, either directly or through others, to emergencies twentyfour (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week.
  • Perform all other duties and projects that may be assigned.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:


  • A high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) from an accredited institution with the ability to comprehend, communicate and respond to instructions, orders, signs, notices, inquiries, etc. in English.
  • Four (4) years of experience in Subway vehicle equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Effective organizational and analytical skills.
  • Possess excellent customer service training and presentation skills.
  • Have the ability to evaluate and guide the performance of others in various training situations.,
  • Have the ability to work any and all shifts and/or locations as assigned or directed.
  • Be available to work twentyfour (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week.
  • Have the ability to supervise and work effectively with a diverse workforce.
  • Ability to comprehend, communicate, and respond to instructions, orders, signs, notices, inquiries, etc. in English
  • Ability to provide internal and external customers with courteous and professional experiences.

Preferred Experience and Skills

  • A technical degree; maintenance training from a technical institute or related technical certificates; related
experience in a supervisory capacity; and/or experience in a training capacity.
