    Position Description

    Girls Inc Summer Camp involves two different camps for different age groups: STEM Summer Camp and Leadership Adventure Summer Camp. Our Summer Camp runs from June 16th to August 16th.

    For the STEM Summer Camp, Girls Inc. is excited to partner with STEM experts in the Madison area who will not only lead hands-on, minds-on STEM activities, but also teach our camp participants that they too can be STEM experts During the STEM Camp, the counselor will support Girls Inc.'s in-person, elementary school youth.

    Girls Inc. Adventure Camp introduces our participants to non-traditional activities and adventures that go beyond stereotypes and challenge them to learn about leadership through adventure. During the Leadership Adventure Camp, staff will support middle school aged youth. Summer camp activities will include canoeing, rock climbing, hiking, and overnight camping.

    Additionally, Eureka is a pilot program this year for participants interested in STEM fields. During this Summer Camp, youth go on field trips to campuses and workplaces to engage in hands-on STEM and life skills activities. Staff will be expected to foster curiosity and excitement for discovering new opportunities.

    Requirements:

    Qualifications

    • Must have High School Diploma or equivalent.
    • Pass Background Check (National/County Criminal, Global Watchlist, SSN Trace, Sex Offender)
    • Required to have valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record to be trained to drive a GCC van.
    • Understanding of, appreciation for, and experience with ability, gender, sexual orientation, and socio-economically, ethnically, and culturally diverse populations.
    • Minimum one year experience working directly with elementary age and or middle school age youth.
    • Strong organizational, facilitating, and leadership skills.
    • Excellent written/verbal comprehension/communication skills to interact with staff, volunteers, and community members.
    • Proficient in office software including Outlook, MS Word, Adobe, Power Point, and Excel.
    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
    • Ability to work in multiple environments (i.e., indoors, outdoors, schools, office, and out of office).
    • Occasional weekend and evening hours based on program needs.
    • Preferred previous experience working in gender-specific programming.

    Responsibilities

    • Assist Girls Inc. team with all summer camp operational needs.
    • Support administrative tasks before and during each camp session including finalizing attendance rosters, calling parents, maintaining inventory, cleaning and sanitizing camp equipment (sleeping bags, tents).
    • Build mentoring relationships with Girls Inc. campers to help create a safe, encouraging environment where girls feel comfortable taking risks.
    • Perform other job-related duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within this position's duties.
