Description
Incollaboration with Clinical Management and interdisciplinary staffmembers participates in assessment of educational needs of clinicaland non - clinical staff; participates in development of curricula;conducts research to obtain most recent information aboutidentified topic; delivers curricula to targeted groups includinginstruction in theory and provision of clinical experience;evaluates effectiveness of curricula through analyses of classparticipation, feedback and written tests; participates inworkshops designed for career advancement of nursing staff;instructs staff of all levels in orientation and other programs;supervises learning experiences of staff in programs; acts as arole model to nursing and health care staff by demonstrating andteaching professional behaviors; participates in and deliversapproved continuing education programs to enhance professionalcompetence; prepares and submits reports as required; maintainsrecords of those persons participating in educational programs;protects human and civil rights of patients and or clients andstaff; may participate on committees and in recruitment process;performs related duties as required, and will be called upon towork some nights or weekends depending on the educational needs ofthe organization.
Requirements
Bachelor of Sciencein nursing preferred. If not yet obtained, the Nursing ProfessionalDevelopment Practitioner must enroll in an accredited Bachelor ofScience program in Nursing within six months and provide ongoingverification of newly completed credits on a semester-to-semesterbasis as a condition of continued employment in the role. Inaddition, five years experience in an acute care setting will berequired of candidates without a completed Bachelor of ScienceDegree in Nursing.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSES:Current New Mexico registered nurse license required; howevercompletion of a Bachelor's of Nursing (BSN) with a Master's inNursing, Education, Business, or another related Master's degreewill substitute for the RN license. ANCC certification in NursingContinuing Education/Staff development preferred. BLS certificationrequired. BLS instructor certification highly recommended, andrequired within 6 months of hire.
SKILLS: Considerableknowledge of principles and practices of nursing in appropriatespecialty serviced, Beginning knowledge of teaching, counseling andevaluation principles and techniques. Basic leadership abilities;high degree of self-confidence; self-motivated; detail-oriented;effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills;ability to prioritize multiple tasks, work independently and as ateam member, employ discretion and confidentiality in sensitiveareas; read, interpret, and follow instructions; beginningcomputer, research and data management skills; basic understandingof regulatory body standards, New Mexico Board of Nursing andContinuing Education Board requirements.
EXPERIENCE: Two yearsteaching experience in nursing and five years experience as an RNin an acute care setting.
SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED: If aBachelor of Science Degree in Nursing is not yet obtained, anadditional 5 years experience in an acute care setting is required.Teaching experience may be unit based; clinical ladder based, anddoes not necessarily include a teaching position only.

ENVIRONMENT:
- Bloodborne pathogen C: Inand/or near patient care setting 70%: general office or classroomsetting 30%
PHYSICALREQUIREMENTS: Intermittent physical effort such aswalking, standing, sitting and those activities involved withpatient care, occasional pushing, pulling, and lifting. Movingeducational equipment and supplies as needed for classes.Flexibility in scheduling required.
