    Description

    • In collaboration with Clinical Management and interdisciplinary staff members, participate in the assessment of educational needs of clinical and non-clinical staff.
    • Participate in the development of curricula and conduct research to obtain the most recent information about identified topics.
    • Deliver curricula to targeted groups, providing instruction in theory and clinical experience.
    • Evaluate the effectiveness of curricula by analyzing class participation, feedback, and written tests.
    • Conduct workshops for the career advancement of nursing staff and instruct staff at all levels in orientation programs.
    • Supervise learning experiences of staff in programs and act as a role model by demonstrating professional behaviors.
    • Deliver approved continuing education programs to enhance professional competence.
    • Prepare and submit reports as required and maintain records of individuals participating in educational programs.
    • Protect the human and civil rights of patients, clients, and staff.
    • May participate in committees and the recruitment process.
    • Perform related duties as required and be available to work some nights or weekends based on organizational educational needs.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
    • If not obtained, the Nursing Professional Development Practitioner must enroll in an accredited Bachelor of Science program in Nursing within six months.
    • Five years of experience in an acute care setting required for candidates without a completed Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing.
    • Current New Mexico registered nurse license required.
    • ANCC certification in Nursing Continuing Education/Staff development preferred.
    • BLS certification and BLS instructor certification required within 6 months of hire.
    • Considerable knowledge of nursing principles, teaching, counseling, and evaluation techniques.
    • Basic leadership abilities, self-confidence, self-motivation, and effective communication skills.
    • Ability to prioritize tasks, work independently and as part of a team, and maintain confidentiality.
    • Basic computer, research, and data management skills required.
    • Two years of teaching experience in nursing and five years of RN experience in an acute care setting.
    • Additional 5 years of acute care experience required if a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing is not yet obtained.

    NATURE OF SUPERVISION

    Responsible to: Manager, Organizational Development

    ENVIRONMENT

    Bloodborne pathogen C: In and/or near patient care setting 70%; general office or classroom setting 30%

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    Intermittent physical effort such as walking, standing, sitting, pushing, pulling, lifting, and moving educational equipment and supplies as needed. Flexibility in scheduling is required.
