    Tuition Reimbursement:

    Under general direction, plans, develops, implements and supports the Agency's transit operating engineering and technology communications systems including, but not limited to land mobile radio, distributed antenna systems, dispatch systems, telephone communications, fire-life-safety, emergency ventilation, building control management, access control, public address and customer information systems, vehicle systems and other transit related technology platforms.

    Provides technical leadership to staff, contractors and vendors, and serves as a subject matter expert on operations engineering and technology systems.

    and performs project engineering and technical support duties to assigned area of responsibility ensuring quality of work meets the standards set forth by the Agency.

    The focus for this position is radio and communication for rail transit systems. Distributed antenna systems (DAS), underground tunnel and station radio systems, emergency communication technology and other related systems. Assignments could also include other operations engineering and technology mentioned above.
    Provide technical leadership, mentorship and coaching to team members, contractors and vendors for operations technology systems.

    Conducts technical analysis, hazard and risk analysis, develops business cases and participates as technical lead on major and routine projects.

    Collaborates with operations and engineering staff to translate agency needs into long-term architecture solutions.

    Evaluate and oversee the design, development, implementation, testing maintenance and life cycle management of operations engineering and technology systems in revenue service.

    Collaborates with the Information Technology and Engineering departments on operations engineering and technology systems to establish and maintain standards, design and test new installations, support transition of new systems from capital projects and ensure delivery and maintenance of secure, reliable and high availability systems.

    Develop, maintain and enforce operating and maintenance standards and procedures pertaining to operations technology in collaboration with the other agency technology groups.

    Provides input to agency capital project design criteria based on service performance, operating needs and technological advancement of operations technology systems.

    Develop and implement system enhancements to improve system reliability and performance.
    Research, design, develop and implement solutions for fault tolerance, performance enhancement, capacity optimization and configuration management for applications.
    Manage and administer service support agreements for operations technology systems.
    Contributes to a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion in alignment with Sound Transit's Equity & Inclusion Policy.

    It is the responsibility of all employees to follow the Agency safety rules, regulations, and procedures pertaining to their assigned duties and responsibilities, which could include systems, operations, and/or other employees.


    Education and Experience:

    Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or closely related field and five years of radio frequency experience in LMR or DAS, preferably in a rail or transit related environment; Certification in at least one DAS system by a DAS equipment manufacturer.

    Core principles of engineering as it pertains to working on operational communication systems, change management, design modification and troubleshooting.

    Methods and techniques involved in designing, installing, testing and maintaining multi-vendor systems and connectivity.

    For the communications systems:

    methods and techniques of performing advanced troubleshooting activities on applications, subscribers, software, hardware, networks, fiber, BDA's and peripheral equipment and maintenance of systems.

    Pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations, including FCC regulations, fire codes, national electrical codes, FRA rules, ATPA and local codes applicable to the system.

    Strong communications skills to coordinate with co-workers, customers and vendors including letter writing and complex report preparation.
    Utilizing computer software programs affecting assigned work and in compiling and preparing spreadsheets and reports.

    Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other department staff, management, vendors, outside agencies, community groups and the general public.

    Developing and defining detailed technical requirements and scoping documents.

    Applying appropriate oral and written communication skills to various individuals ranging from Agency employees, engineering consultants and local, state and federal agencies.

    Experience with Rail/Transit based engineering and operations technology.
    Work is performed in a hybrid office and field environment.

    Position is responsible for testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining radio equipment at stations, operations facilities, guideways, parking garages, and on transit vehicles; Positions working in field may occasionally be exposed to dangerous machinery, extreme weather conditions, physical harm, hazardous chemicals, and/or extreme noise.

    Position may occasionally work night shifts as many of the equipment under this position's responsibility can only be worked on during non-revenue (night) hours.
