    Description


    The Rutgers University Foundation seeks a mission-driven, creative, and resourceful development professional to serve as its Director of Development (DOD) representing Rutgers Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy (EMSOP).

    The DOD will become part of a highly talented and ultra-responsive fundraising team partnering with EMSOP's alumni, patients and families, and physicians, to raise philanthropic support at multiple gift levels.

    The DOD will dually report to the Senior Director of Development, Rutgers Health and the Dean of Rutgers Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy, and serve as a proactive leader, seeking out connections with alumni to obtain major gifts to support the EMSOP and its growth.

    They will play a critically important role in enhancing the school's individual giving efforts, while focusing on advancing donor and prospect relationships.

    The DOD will be joining the foundation at a time of great anticipation during the quiet phase of our multibillion-dollar campaign.

    This role will be primarily located in New Brunswick and Piscataway, NJ where the DOD will focus on building relationships with the faculty and other academic leaders as well as fellow fundraisers and central RUF teams.

    They will focus on funding opportunities for talent (student scholarships and endowed chairs), programs and research, facilities and programmatic funds.

    A representative of Rutgers Health, EMSOP, and Rutgers at-large, the DOD shares an appreciation for the diverse and impactful work done at Rutgers Health and thoroughly understands fundraising priorities in order to make a compelling case for support.

    They will be instrumental in building a culture of philanthropy and supporting the development of major gift pipelines through teamwork, creativity, problem-solving, and solicitations at the major gift-giving level.

    Essential Functions Manage a personal gift donor/prospect portfolio with a focus on securing of $25,000 and aboveIdentify, engage, and acquire new prospects for assigned unitActively solicit prospects and donors and meet mutually established goals related to solicitations, gift closures, prospects met, and qualifications.

    This includes utilizing various giving vehicles, such as in-kind and planned gifts.

    Possibly manage a Development Specialist to support development-related communications and other special projectsDevelop positive, professional working relationships with the faculty and staff members within the assigned unit(s).Build a strong working relationship with EMSOP Marketing and other RUF teamsCreate and execute a major gifts pipeline strategyDevelop and submit written proposals, budgets, and other collateral materials as needed for securing philanthropic investmentsExecute stewardship strategiesLiaise with the EMSOP Alumni Association and other nursing school groupsAttend and host various in-person and online events as needed for donor engagement and stewardshipMaintain contact reports and assigned tasks in a timely mannerOther duties as assigned Skills and Abilities Consistency Meet and exceed individual fundraising metricsCreate an increasingly complex donor pipeline strategyDemonstrate an ability to identify new prospects for assigned unit(s) ContributionsEstablish strong working relationships with deans, chairs, directors, and faculty members of assigned unit(s)CompetenciesDemonstrate mastery to discover, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift prospects with increasing levels of autonomous workLeadership Lead specifically assigned projects with some oversight from the unit development leadersMay lead a divisional or sub-unit development programMay have reporting responsibilities to divisional or sub-unit leader(s) Education/ Qualifications Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in fundraising, advancement, non-profit or higher education.

    They must possess a track record of consensus building and collaboration; excellent verbal and written communication, organizational and interpersonal skills; and an approach that believes there are no dead ends but only new avenues to pursue.

    They must exhibit strong professional judgment and exemplify the mission, core values and vision of Rutgers Health including a compassionate, professional, and donor-centric demeanor in all interactions with donors, patients, alumni, and other volunteers.

    Preference will be given to candidates with experience in higher education or healthcare environments. Master's degree preferred. Mental Demands Clarity of focus while juggling complex projects or deadlines. Workplace Arrangements This is classified as an office-centric hybrid position.

    Colleagues working under an office-centric hybrid arrangement have a primary workstation in a university or foundation location and are in the office between one and five days a week.

    The frequency with which they are present in the office depends on their role and function and the interdependency of other functions.

    As a leadership position, there is a need to be in the office often to facilitate personal interaction - likely 3 or more days per week.

    Working Conditions This position requires little physical effort. Will work evenings, weekends, or odd hours to meet resource-raising commitments. Typical working conditions with an absence of disagreeable elements. This position requires some early mornings and late evenings to accommodate meetings, travel, events, and external constituent's schedules.
