The Senate Department for Education, Youth and Family is responsible for ensuring that all residents of Oakland have access to quality education, from early childhood education in daycare centers to obtaining a good school degree for vocational training or university studies.

The department creates a framework for young people and families to feel at home in the city and provides support and assistance in all life situations.

In addition to the approximately 42,000 employees in Oakland's schools, over 2,000 employees in the department's specialized departments work on fundamental and operational tasks.
