    Job Summary



    The Center for Excellence in Primary Care (CEPC) housed within the Department of Family and Community Medicine at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital is seeking an exceptional Project Manager who is passionate about improving healthcare delivery, particularly for the underserved. As a Project Manager in CEPC, you would share in our mission to identify, develop, test, and spread promising innovations in primary care to improve the patient experience, enhance population health and health equity, reduce the cost of care, and restore joy and satisfaction in the practice of primary care. The Project Manager will be working in partnership with clinicians, clinic staff, and trainees who have dedicated their careers to advancing health equity and delivering compassionate, world-class care to the most vulnerable populations.

    The candidate will work with a high degree of autonomy and initiative under the supervision of a Senior Project Manager to drive forward a portfolio of research and evaluation projects, including duties such as:

    • Managing an annual work experience survey for primary care health systems;
    • Engaging in user-centered design strategies to develop a health coaching program to improve adherence to sleep apnea treatment;
    • Conducting environmental assessments to identify opportunities for medical students to gain research and practice improvement skills through internships;
    • Developing data systems and cleaning plans for complex datasets gathered through natural experiments, such as clinic operation measures and satisfaction surveys from diverse health centers across the country;
    • Disseminating research findings to a variety of stakeholders through mechanisms such as webinars, websites, toolkits, written briefs, peer-reviewed manuscripts, and professional meetings.
    • Other duties as assigned.
    The incumbent will interact with stakeholders and partners from many backgrounds in a professional and congenial manner and must have awareness and sensitivity towards diverse cultures and populations. The incumbent must work well independently and within a team to manage responsibilities across different investigators, co-workers, and students. The incumbent must be able to work under pressure and be organized to meet strict project deadlines. Ability to take initiative, work with a high degree of autonomy, demonstrated reliability, and analytical and problem-solving skills are required.

    Department Description



    The Department of Family & Community Medicine (DFCM) is engaged in research, teaching, training, service and clinical activities located at seven primary UCSF and leased sites in San Francisco: Parnassus, Zuckerberg San Francisco General (ZSFG) - Buildings 7 (Pride Hall), 80, 90 and the Main Hospital, Mission Center Building, Laurel Heights, Mission Hall, Lakeshore, Lakeside, as well as the OSHER center, Women's Health and the UCSF Primary Care Practices at China Basin and Laurel Village and at various local community, national and international research/service/education training and clinical sites. In addition to the Department's Family Medicine Residency Program located at ZSFG, the Department has affiliated residency programs in Fresno, Salinas, Santa Rosa, Kaiser Vallejo, Santa Rosa, and Contra Costa Health Systems. Authority and accountability for the Department reside with the Department Chair who delegates authority to Vice Chairs, the Executive Council, Directors and Chiefs of Service and their Administrators and the Department Associate Chair of Administration and Finance.

    Primary care in the United States is in the midst of transformation. Primary care practices are increasingly being held accountable for providing comprehensive, timely, patient-centered care. The UCSF Center for Excellence in Primary Care (CEPC) has developed a framework for primary care transformation - the 10 Building Blocks model. Drawn from the experiences of high performing primary care practice, the building blocks provide a roadmap to improvements in patient experience, population health, and the sustainability of primary care.

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
    • Knowledge of common organization- or research-specific and other computer application programs.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
    • Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
    • Analytical / problem-solving skills.
    • Strong skills in analyzing, researching and synthesizing large amounts of data for preparing sound and relevant proposals / analyses.
    • Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
    • Strong policy analysis techniques.
    • Minimum 3 years working with underserved or vulnerable populations.
    • Minimum 3 years working with behavioral change models, particularly self-management support for underserved populations.
    • Minimum 3 years experience working with data management system design and administration, such as Qualtrics or Redcap.
    • Minimum 3 years working with Microsoft Access and Excel, with demonstrated proficiency in design and management of databases.
    • Minimum 1 year experience developing reports, presenting data and facilitating meetings to develop action-plans to respond to data findings.
    • Experience in project management including ability to set priorities, meet competing deadlines, and communicate across multiple investigators.
    • Able and willing to work flexible hours, including some weeknight and weekend work.
    • This position requires ability to travel between community-based clinics and other worksites within San Francisco area via personal or public transportation.
    • This is a critical position. The incumbent must pass a background check and fingerprinting.


    Preferred Qualifications

    • Minimum 3 years experience working in research related to primary care redesign or quality improvement, and able to demonstrate working knowledge of relevant concepts and terminology.
    • Minimum 3 years working with Stata data analysis or similar software.
    • Minimum 6 months experience developing reports in interactive on-line system such as Tableau.
    • Minimum 6 months experience using electronic health records and chronic disease registries.
    • Conversational proficiency in Spanish, Cantonese, or Russian
