The GSI Helmholtz Center for Heavy Ion Research in Darmstadt operates one of the leading particle accelerator facilities for science.

In the coming years, the new facility FAIR (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research), one of the largest research projects worldwide, will be built in international cooperation.

GSI and FAIR offer the opportunity to work in this international environment with a team of employees who are dedicated to conducting world-class science.

We are currently seeking a Scientific Employee (m/f/d) for our IT department to lead the Data Storage Group.


Your tasks will include:

  • Providing technical leadership for the employees of the Data Storage Group
  • Designing, planning, and operating the hardware platform for the scientific data of GSI and FAIR
  • Developing concepts for the further development of highperformance storage systems at GSI in close collaboration with the scientific community
  • Implementing a "Federated Data Storage" concept for global access to the scientific data of GSI and FAIR experiments
  • Collaborating with experiments in the petabyte range.

Your profile should include:

  • A successfully completed degree (Master's, Diploma) in computer science, physics, or a related field
  • Expertise in data storage technologies and systems (Lustre, Ceph, etc.)
  • Experience in team leadership and project management related to data storage
  • Knowledge of developing and implementing storage strategies and solutions
  • Ability to analyze data and create reports to monitor the performance of data
