HOUSING & BENEFITS PROGRAM ASSISTANT: JOB DESCRIPTION
The Housing & Benefits Program Assistant will be responsible for contacting the identified youth, assessing their needs using a benefits screening tool, and then connecting them to the appropriate resource providers and specialists. We're looking for powerful leading voices who aren't afraid to fight for our clients and advocate for family reunification, permanence, educational opportunity, health & mental health services, self-sufficiency and overall well-being. If you are fiercely dedicated to child welfare system reform and supporting our clients in the dependency counsel, Children's Law Center of California might be the place for you.
In partnership with Mayor's Fund of the City of Los Angeles and the Rightway Foundation, the Children's Law Center of California ("CLC") is beginning a multi-year partnership to address the housing challenges facing a transition-age youth as they exit the foster care system. The partnership is designed to identify youth at early touchpoints in the transition process and to begin the process of connecting them to resources and providers who can offer benefits and housing assistance early and on a long-term basis.
    RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Serve as a liaison between the partner organizations, the Mayor's Fund, Rightway Foundation, & CLC ensuring that there is a consistent flow of communication and information sharing.
    • Create and maintain a database of client information and the related resource and benefit referrals and outcomes
    • Serve as a point-of-contact for clients, case managers and resource providers for the project
    • Troubleshoot any issues that arise between the youth, their case manager and/or a resource provider.
    • Escalate any issues that arise to the appropriate staff within the partner organization.
    • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
    • Ability to travel to CLC's office in Monterey Park, CA
    • May be required to occasionally travel to CLC's office in Lancaster, CA.
    Requirements:

    EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

    • Associate degree or higher or equivalent level of job experience
    • Fluent in Spanish preferred
    • Prior experience working with public benefits systems with a focus on at-risk youth and young adults.
    • Prior experience and knowledge of housing benefits systems and emergency shelter resources
    • Ability to effectively and respectfully communicate with children, teens, their families and caregivers.
    • Maintain professional and effective relationships with court personnel, coworkers, and other CLC attorneys and staff.
    • Ability to create and manage organizational tools and handle significant workflow.

    BENEFITS & COMPENSATION

The pay range for this position is $45,000 to $55,000, based on relevant experience as determined by CLC. CLC offers an excellent benefits package including 15 PTO days and 12 sick days in the first year, an up to 6% employer-matched retirement plan, and generous Family and Medical Leave and health care plans.

CLC values diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect for all individuals in the workplace. We recognize the importance of a culturally diverse workforce across all job classifications, and encourage candidates with diverse backgrounds, lived experiences, and perspectives to apply. CLC is committed to inclusive practices in recruitment, hiring, promotion, and retention.

A valid California driver's license, reliable automobile, and auto insurance required while working for Children's Law Center.
