    College Dean of Students
    Job Summary

    The Director of the Office of College Community Standards (OCCS) oversees the College's area disciplinary and academic review processes. This includes the design and implementation of discipline procedures, and delegation of disciplinary cases to staff as appropriate.

    The Director of OCCS supports the Assistant Director in the management of discipline cases, crisis planning, case management, student intervention and academic review.

    The Director oversees the office budget, directly supervises the Assistant Director, and oversees the hiring and training of new staff.

    The Director works with the Dean of Students and Deputy Dean of Students on office projects and other tasks as assigned, as well as yearly data collection and review.

    The Director reports to the Dean of Students and serves on the Dean of Students Senior and Executive Leadership Teams.

    Responsibilities

    Manages complaints about student social or academic misconduct, including, as necessary, communication with faculty, other College staff, University partner offices, and parents.

    Manages discipline cases and meets with students who experience academic, personal, or discipline challenges.
    Manages student conduct process and delegates disciplinary cases to the assistant director or other staff as appropriate.
    Manages the membership and work of the College Area Disciplinary Committee.
    Resolves minor cases of academic and social misconduct through Confidential Files or Dean's Resolution.
    Partners with and presents to University partner offices on topics relevant to College student conduct.
    Works closely with the University Deans on Call and University law enforcement.
    Communicates with parents when appropriate.
    Manages Maxient data including the opening and closing of cases related to student conduct, and other issues.
    Manages annual reporting of student conduct cases, and appropriately identifies cases for Clery and other University reporting needs.
    Works with Campus and Student Life staff on annual reporting as needed.
    Reviews and certifies disciplinary records of individual students who are candidates for opportunities requiring a background check.

    Partners with the University's Office of the Registrar to develop, maintain, and improve tools to identify students at risk of failing to make satisfactory progress.

    Partners with College Advising to gather information about students' individual circumstances impacting their academic progress.

    Facilitates quarterly meetings of the Academic Standing Committee to review and respond to student records which have failed to meet the College's standards for progress.

    Communicates individual decisions made by the Academic Standing Committee to students on behalf of the Dean of Students.
    Supervise the Assistant Director of the OCCS.
    Works with the Dean of Students and the Deputy Dean of Students on office projects and planning as assigned.
    Manages the hiring of staff and office budget as needed.
    Develops staff development programs that educate the staff in the full range of information they must knowcurricular, campus resources, developmental issues facing the collegeaged population, psychological issues, financial aid policies, etc.
    Recommends effective advising strategies for these students.

    Manages a team of individuals that validate the academic status of students within the school to ensure proper tuition assessments and scholarship awards.

    Identifies and implements technological solutions to improve operating efficiencies and assure veracity of data gathering.
    Performs other related work as needed.

    Minimum Qualifications


    Education:
    Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.
    Work

    Experience:
    Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 7+ years of work experience in a related job discipline.
    Certifications:Preferred Qualifications


    Education:
    Bachelor's degree.
    Advanced degree strongly preferred with a 6year minimum gap between date of college graduation and appointment as Assistant DOS.


    Experience:
    Minimally 7 years experience in higher education or related field.
    Familiarity with University structure and functions of its various offices and departments.
    Strong commitment to young adults and the values and goals of a liberal arts education.
    Minimum 5 years experience working directly with university conduct and discipline.


    Technical Skills or Knowledge:
    Excellent computer skills and ability to use complex databases and other record keeping systems.

    Preferred Competencies
    Strong verbal and written communication skills including excellent editing/proofreading ability in English.
    Manage multiple concurrent tasks in a competent and professional manner while also meeting deadlines.
    Work effectively with supervision and as a part of a team, individually or while taking directions from others.
    Collaborate with faculty.
    Establish good working relationships with people of diverse backgrounds.
    Maintain

    confidentiality/discretion

    at all times related to students, faculty, and staff.
    Work under pressure and manage stressful situations with multiple competing deadlines.

    Critical thinking, problem solving, and decisionmaking skills.

    Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize and manage concurrent tasks with interruptions, ability to meet deadlines and respond to many emails, in person and phone requests in a timely fashion.

    Fastpaced environment.
    Sit at a computer for 46 hours.
    Periodic walking to other campus locations.
