Summary:


Under the direct supervision of the Emergency Department Clinical Manager (or designee) this position is responsible for providing care across the lifespan.


Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include inserting peripheral intravenous (I.V.) catheters PICC lines and mid-lines in the emergency department. Monitors peripherally inserted central lines mid-lines and other infusion devices. Acts as a resource and consultant for emergency department staff regarding I.V. therapy assessment products and procedures.

Plans evaluates and implements interventions for solving I.V. related patient care problems. Assesses and provides appropriate teaching based on staff patient and family needs.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

Baccalaureate in Nursing preferred.


Must have current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.


EXPERIENCE:

Two years of clinical experience to include: I.V. therapy.

Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS) American Heart Association

Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills. Ultrasound guided IV placement PICC line placement Midline placement certification within 8 months of hire depending on shift/hours worked.


WORK ENVIRONMENT AND
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Visual and aural ability to monitor patient status.

Physical ability to assist in lifting and positioning patients.

Exposed to patient care environment.

Physical ability for walking extensive standing; lifting positioning and pushing patients on stretchers.

Excellent manual dexterity
