- Lead, plan, train, and supervise the work of engineering staff responsible for traffic and transportation engineering; verify the work of assigned employees for accuracy, proper work methods, techniques, and compliance with applicable standards and specifications.
- Review plans for streets and interchanges prepared by staff to see that they meet established specifications.
- Prepare, review, and implement traffic signalization plans; review traffic signal operations and verify correct operation.
- Perform advanced professional engineering work in connection with municipal and state traffic projects.
- Gather and interpret data and prepare reports on traffic issues such as speeding, volume, circulation patterns, roadway capacity, accidents, parking requirements and projected traffic lanes needed.
- Develop volumes and project traffic forecasts.
- Conduct capacity analyses using HCM, Synchro, and SimTraffic.
- Contribute to development of complex microsimulation models using VISSIM and TransModeler.
- Conduct safety analyses using Highway Safety Manual (HSM) methods.
- Exhibit a clear understanding of traffic engineering principles.
- Operate with attention to detail and willingness to proofread your own work and work of peers.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar position including traffic analysis and traffic engineering/design
- Must be willing to locate to Wisconsin or Minnesota
- Graduate with Civil Engineering degree along with a focus or emphasis in Transportation
- PE is required
- AICP is preferred
- Hands-on experience with Highway Capacity Software, Synchro/SimTraffic, VISSIM, or TransModeler
- Familiarity with High Safety Manual procedures, tools, and concepts
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Commitment to being a team player
- Ability to schedule workload, meet deadlines and project deliverables
- Prior experience with railroad preemption is a plus
