    Staff Psychologist/ Assoc. Director of Training - Providence, United States - Providence College

    Provide counseling and psychotherapy. psychological assessment, and crisis intervention to students.


    Essential Duties:

    • Conduct extensive psychological interviews, formulate appropriate treatment plans. when necessary, coordinate office-campus hospitalization(s). psychiatric, or medical evaluations. Make referrals to resources both on and off campus. Meet with students on a weekly. biweekly. or as needed basis as clinically appropriate to improve students functioning. Clinical care is provided based on ethical theories, principles, and methods. Develop a treatment plan of action aimed toward the prevention, treatment, and resolution of mental, social, emotional, and psychological dysfunction and distress. Refer to both on and off campus resources.
    • Conduct orientation of all trainees and their scheduling. Develop didactic seminar curricular for trainees and maintenance of all records relative to their training as well as perform and/or schedule seminars and trainings with post-doc and interns. Maintain continual knowledge of all state licensing laws to prepare interns for licensure in any of the fifty states. Prepare interns and post-docs for the job search, psychologist examination prep, clinical skills, and all other areas of professional development.
    • Perform diagnostic assessment and intervention in acute crisis such as risk of suicide, trauma, and/or major campus catastrophe. Provide crisis intervention for students who are experiencing acute emotional distress as a result of varying emergencies such as trauma (i.e. sexual assault). death, substance use, or who are a danger to themselves or others. Participate in monthly after hours on-call crisis rotation for the office. Provide psychological/clinical judgement when requested to the administration, including the Executive Director of Personal Counseling and the Sr. Vice President of Student Affairs.
    • Recruit qualified and capable doctoral psychology interns and post-doctoral psychology fellows. Serve as main contact for field work directors at various programs. Outreach to training directors of all clinical and counseling psychology doctoral programs in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Hampshire. Promote the benefits of training experience at the Personal Counseling Center. Interview applicants each cycle for the upcoming academic year. Work with all Personal Counseling Center staff in the selection process. Ensure that all training agreements and contracts are up to date and reviewed by on campus General Counsel.
    • Maintain electronic case record of clinical care and all correspondence for students on their own clinical caseload. Review trainee assigned cases and sign off on notes as supervisor.

    Marginal Duties:

    • Conduct and facilitate training on mental health to faculty, staff, and students, including meeting specific departmental requests long with specialty training.
    • Perform all other duties as may be required.
    Education and Experience Required


    • PhD, PsyD, or EdD in counseling or clinical psychology from an accredited institution.
    • Minimum two years' post-doctoral experience.
    • Licensed as a psychologist in Rhode Island.
    • Ability to perform psychological assessments, interventions, and treatment planning.
    • Experience in the supervision of post-doctoral psychology fellows and advanced doctoral trainees.
    • Individual and group clinical counseling expertise.
    • Experience in brief and long-term therapy models.
    • Experience with young adult population.
    • Experience with diverse cultural backgrounds.
    • Demonstrated clinical experience with mental health issues and psychological disorders.
    • Experience with emergency mental health interventions.
    • Experience with specific college age related issues and concerns such as: eating disorders, substance use, sexual assault, mood and anxiety disorders, developmental stages and issues, self injury/suicide.

    Employee Status Full Time Salary Grade 21 (Min. $73,292/Mid. $95,279/Max. $117,266) Salary Information


    Employees are normally hired between the minimum and the midpoint of a position's grade range to which a position has been assigned, depending on experience and qualifications.
